Lyon v West Ham betting tips: Hammers still have hope
Preview, odds and Lyon v West Ham betting tips
The teams are all square heading into the second leg of this Europa League quarter-final as we analyse the odds to produce some Lyon v West Ham betting tips.
Jarrod Bowen was on target as the 10-man Hammers earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week.
They are now the 29/20 underdogs to go through but still have reasons for optimism ahead of Thursday’s match, which kicks off at 8pm and is live on BT Sport.
Tempers could flare
West Ham could be reasonably satisfied with a draw in the first leg after having Aaron Cresswell sent off just before half-time.
The Hammers, playing in the latter stages of a major European competition for the first time in 41 years, were up against it after Cresswell was harshly dismissed for a foul on Moussa Dembele.
The decision could have left West Ham with a mountain to climb ahead of the second leg in the French city overlooked by the Alps but Bowen’s equaliser put the 10 men 1-0 up before Tottenham loanee Tanguy Ndombele hauled Lyon level.
It promises to be a spicy return leg in the culinary capital of France after tempers occasionally boiled over while Dembele’s Cristiano Ronaldo-style wink after Cresswell’s red card will not have gone unnoticed among the Hammers ranks.
French favourites on home soil
Lyon will have returned from London happy to be on level terms and are 21/20 to win the second leg in 90 minutes.
West Ham are 13/5 to win in regular time and 11/1 to win on penalties, with Lyon’s Ligue 1 form giving them hope.
Lyon are 10th in the table having lost two of their last three home games but while they are having an erratic season domestically, they are unbeaten in this competition and knocked out Porto in the last 16.
West Ham boss David Moyes said: “We’ve got a really difficult game to come but we expected that. The first leg is always difficult and hard to get a defining result.
“The game is very much all to play for, at half-time I would have taken that.”
Lyon have conceded 20 goals at home in 16 Ligue 1 matches, including six in their last two games, so both teams to score appeals at 7/10 for our Lyon v West Ham betting tips.
Zouma injury scare
West Ham are anxiously waiting to discover the extent of Kurt Zouma’s injury ahead of one of the biggest nights in the club’s recent history.
The French defender limped out of Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford after twisting his ankle and faces a race to recover in time as the Hammers bid to reach a first European semi-final in 46 years.
The return of Bowen from injury has been a welcome boost at least and his goal in the first leg was his second in as many games since making his comeback.
Looking at the #YourCall options for more Lyon v West Ham betting tips, 10/1 is available for Bowen to score in a West Ham win with goals at both ends.
Alternatively, Bowen to score at any time and have three or more shots is 11/2 while the 25-year-old is 3/1 to be on target again and 15/2 to open the scoring.
