Preview of Monday’s key World Cup qualifying clash

Wales travel to Tallinn in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday and we look at the odds to find some Estonia v Wales betting tips.

Belgium are runaway leaders in Group E but with Wales holding the Czech Republic to a draw in Prague on Friday, Robert Page’s side will hope to win a key game to stay in the hunt for a place at next winter’s Qatar finals.

Monday’s match, which takes place at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn, is live on Sky Sports and S4C and kicks off at 7.45pm.

Estonia v Wales match odds

Wales earned a fabulous point in a 2-2 draw in Prague on Friday and with a game in hand on second-placed Czech Republic, can go second in the Group E table if avoiding defeat to Estonia.

Both Wales and the Czech Republic have eight points but Wales have played five games to the Czechs’ six. Belgium top the group with 16 points with two games remaining.

On Friday, the hosts went 2-1 up through a bizarre own goal from goalkeeper Danny Ward (pictured below), although Daniel James’ fifth international goal earned Page’s men a share of the spoils.

Wales were lively on the counter-attack, despite missing Gareth Bale, and are 3/5 to win in Tallinn on Monday in the Estonia v Wales betting tips.

They are firmly in command of the race for second place now, with home games against Belarus and Belgium to come.

The Czechs have a superior goal difference (one goal) to Wales but have the easier of the final two games – away to Belarus and at home to Estonia – so goals could be important for Page’s side in Estonia, who are 11/2 to win.

Estonia lost 6-2 at home to the Czechs in March and 5-2 at home to Belgium last month, but Wales were held to a goalless draw by Estonia in Cardiff last month. The draw is available at odds of 13/5.

Wales are already effectively guaranteed a play-off place in their bid to reach the finals for the first time since 1958, thanks to their success in the Nations League.

However, finishing second in this World Cup qualifying group could secure them a more favourable draw in that knockout stage.

Estonia v Wales head-to-head

Wales won both previous meetings with Estonia prior to last month’s stalemate, which was their first competitive international.

The sides first met in 1994 when Wales earned a 2-1 friendly win in Tallinn. In their second clash in May 2009, Wales won 1-0 in another friendly in Llanelli thanks to a Robert Earnshaw penalty.

Wales have held Estonia scoreless in the last two meetings and are 5/4 to win to nil this time in the Estonia v Wales betting tips.

Estonia v Wales key battles

Estonia’s sole victory in the group came against Belarus last month and they have four points from five games.

Ranked 110th in the world, they came close to taking the points in Cardiff, with Mattias Kent hitting the crossbar.

Yet it was Estonia’s teenage Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein who prevented Wales from taking the points, making several excellent saves.

Although they will again miss Bale, the biggest fear is that Page’s side will again play down to lower-ranked opposition.

Wales are 4/9 to score the first goal, as they did in Prague, and 11/4 to be held at half-time and go on to win the game.
