Preview and odds for Man City v Tottenham

These two teams head into Saturday’s late Premier League game in contrasting form as we pick out some Man City v Tottenham betting tips.

City are seemingly cruising towards another league title and have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals after thrashing Sporting Lisbon in midweek.

Spurs are hoping to join them in next season’s Champions League but their hopes of a top-four finish have been rocked by three successive defeats heading into Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 5.30pm and is live on Sky Sports.

City look unstoppable

The form of City could hardly be better and they start the weekend with a nine-point advantage over second-placed Liverpool, albeit having played a game more than their nearest challengers.

Pep Guardiola’s men have won 12 out of their last 13 matches in all competitions, with their only blemish being a 1-1 draw at Southampton last month.

Since then they have enjoyed four wins in three different competitions and the goals have been flowing, having put four past Fulham and Norwich and five past Sporting on Tuesday night.

At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Ederson has kept three successive clean sheets and did not face a shot on target against Sporting so it is little wonder City are just 2/7 for another win on Saturday.

For Man City v Tottenham betting tips, there are several ways to back the home side at a bigger price.

Backing City to win to nil is an obvious option at 21/20 while they are 20/23 to be leading at half-time and full-time or 17/10 to win both halves, with the last two bets having paid out in each of the last four games.

Spurs seek City double

Few Tottenham fans will be feeling confident ahead of the trip to Manchester but one reason for optimism is the previous meeting between the two teams.

That was back on the opening weekend of the season when Nuno Espirito Santo took charge of Spurs for the first time and enjoyed a 1-0 win.

Harry Kane did not feature due to continued speculation over a move to City which failed to materialise but he was not missed as Son Heung-min scored the only goal in the 55th minute.

Much has changed since then of course, not least the sacking of Nuno and the arrival of Antonio Conte but even the Italian is struggling to improve their fortunes.

Spurs start the weekend in eighth place after losing to Chelsea, Southampton and Wolves in their last three games and the seven goals they have conceded in that time is a particular concern.

Based on that form, Spurs are available at 11/1 to complete the double over City and 29/10 to avoid defeat.

The visitors are 20/23 just to score a goal while a City win and both teams to score is available for Man City v Tottenham betting tips at 19/10.

Head-to-head

Home advantage has made a huge difference when these teams have met in recent seasons, with the hosts winning seven of the last eight encounters and the other being a 2-2 draw while City won last year’s EFL Cup final at Wembley.

City have lost without scoring a goal on all four visits to Tottenham’s new stadium but are unbeaten at home in this fixture since February 2016 when Christian Eriksen’s late goal secured a 2-1 win for Spurs.

Backing under 2.5 goals would have paid out in four of the last five meetings and is priced at 13/10 in the Man City v Tottenham odds.

The danger men

Kane made it clear that he wanted to join City last summer but in the end the champions opted not to replace Sergio Aguero and have so far made a mockery of suggestions they are short of firepower.

If Kane does still harbour ambitions of heading north, this would be a good opportunity to shine and the England captain is 3/1 to get on the scoresheet or 9/1 to open the scoring.

Team-mate Son seems to relish playing against City and his winner in August was the seventh time he has scored against them, with the South Korean also 3/1 to add to that tally.

It is a sign of City’s expected dominance of this game that 11 of their players are shorter odds to find the net, with Raheem Sterling (7/5), Riyad Mahrez (11/8) and Kevin De Bruyne (6/4) the most likely contenders.
