Tomasz Mortimer’s Hungary v France preview: drained Hungary in for a tough time

Our Matchday Squad journalist will be covering Hungary throughout Euro 2020

After coming so close but so far to an upset in the opener, there’s no time to re-energise for Hungary as they face the world champions in their second game in Group F.

Unfortunately though, they could do with re-energising. The intensity that they played the game on Tuesday afternoon with would have been foreign to many in the squad. This is a side where less than a handful play in Europe’s major leagues, so attempting to go toe to toe with the elite is tough on the body and mind.

That’s why I think Hungary will have little to no chance against France. France are already light years ahead of Hungary on the pitch, but the fact that this game comes around so quickly after a physically and emotionally draining loss only compounds things.

Some people in Hungary are of the opinion that Hungary should rotate the squad and almost take this game off to concentrate on the final group game, and though this is unlikely to happen, whatever Hungary team goes out there is in for a monumental task. I am predicting a France 4-0 Hungary scoreline.

Hungarian football is a very interesting world. No country has ever been both as good and as bad as Hungary have been - from reaching two World Cup finals to losing to Andorra, Luxembourg and Kazakhstan in the same calendar year. Hungarian football is wild according Tomasz.
