Preview and odds for Saturday’s EFL Championship match

The Blades, who are among the promotion favourites, take on Russell Martin’s Swans on Saturday evening and we have scouted the odds to find some Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips.

Relegated last season, Sheffield United suffered an opening-day defeat to Birmingham City while Swansea will hope to bounce back following their loss to Blackburn Rovers.

The game takes place at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday and is live on Sky Sports with an 8pm kick-off.

Swansea v Sheff Utd match odds

Last season’s beaten play-off semi-finalists Swansea went down 2-1 to Blackburn at Ewood Park on the opening weekend.

Martin’s first competitive game in charge did not go according to plan and they contributed to their own downfall with Steven Benda conceding a poor penalty that was converted by Ben Bereton Diaz. Sam Gallagher gave Blackburn the lead and Jamie Paterson’s debut goal was a mere consolation.

Swansea, who have not started a league campaign with back-to-back losses since 2013-14, are 21/10 to beat Sheffield United.

The Swans did gain a comfortable 3-0 win at Reading in the first round of the League Cup in midweek to boost confidence, and although depth in the squad is not what it could be, Martin hopes to build on a solid foundation.

Sheffield United also have a new man at the helm. Slavisa Jokanovic, who has twice earned promotion from the Championship with Fulham and Watford, saw his side go down 1-0 at home to Birmingham, with Maxime Colin heading the decisive goal after 19 minutes.

The Blades have won just seven of their last 39 league games since the start of last season but also bounced back in midweek with a League Cup victory over Carlisle and are 6/4 for victory in Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips.

It has finished honours even just once in the last 10 meetings and the odds for a draw this time are 21/10.

Swansea v Sheff Utd head-to-head

Sheffield United have the all-time edge, winning 19 of the 42 meetings, with 10 games drawn.

They have lost the last three meetings but have never lost four consecutive clashes and the Blades are 2/5 to avoid defeat on the Double Chance market.

There have been just two away wins in the last 18 meetings and Swansea are 8/15 to either win or draw the game.

Six of the last nine clashes saw at least one team fail to net and it is 4/5 that this trend is maintained.

Swansea v Sheff Utd team news

Blades goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is expected to play despite transfer speculation linking him with Arsenal and the visitors can be backed in Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips at 29/10 to win to nil.

Former Swans Ollie McBurnie and Rhian Brewster – whose goal against Carlisle was his first in 10 months – look set to start and Brewster is 5/1 to be the first scorer.

Evergreen 35-year-old Billy Sharp (pictured above) could lead the line for the Blades and he is 23/10 to score at any time.

The Swans brought in Flynn Downes this week from Ipswich and he could make his debut.

Korey Smith, who suffered a calf injury at Blackburn, is ruled out along with central midfielder Liam Walsh, who has a hamstring strain.

Ryan Manning is close to a full return following a period of self-isolation in the wake of a positive Covid-19 test, while Ben Hamer has also tested positive.

Swansea v Sheff Utd key battles

McBurnie impressed in his maiden season at Sheffield United, scoring six times as Chris Wilder’s side finished ninth in their first campaign back at the highest level.

It was a different story in 2020-21 as United were relegated and McBurnie scored only once.

Having left Wales for Bramall Lane in a deal worth up to £20m in 2019, McBurnie has received criticism from some fans after sitting among Swansea’s fans watching his old club on a number of occasions, most recently at May’s Championship play-off final against Brentford.

After a pre-season which was disrupted by the foot injury which saw him miss Euro 2020, he is looking to reclaim his place in Jokanovic’s side and would like nothing more than to score against his old club. He is 23/10 to score at any time in Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips and 18/1 to score two or more.
