Steven Gerrard backed to take Liverpool U23s job

Will the Rangers manager make his Merseyside return sooner rather than later?

Our traders have seen a flurry of bets this morning on Steven Gerrard taking over as Liverpool’s under-23s coach, taking over from Neil Critchley who moved to Blackpool.

The Rangers boss saw some fans calling for his head after his side fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Hamilton on Wednesday.

The loss sees Rangers sat 13 points behind league-leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, while they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup on Saturday by Hearts, effectively ending their shot at silverware for the season.

The Gers remain in the Europa League after beating Braga in the Round of 32, but they’re priced at 50/1 to take the trophy – suggesting it could be an unrealistic ambition.

“Steven Gerrard is a legend at Liverpool and it would be no surprise if one day he took over as manager of the Reds. A move back to Merseyside could come sooner than expected though, as he has been heavily backed this morning to take over as Liverpool’s under 23s coach,” said Coral’s John Hill.
