Roma v Manchester United Betting Tips: Italian job looks routine for United
Preview and odds for Europa League semi-final
Roma are seemingly facing mission impossible and would need to produce one of the greatest comebacks of all time to deny Manchester United a place in the Europa League final.
United came from behind to win the first leg 6-2 at Old Trafford last week and are 5/6 to follow that up with another victory in the Italian capital.
Roma are 3/1 to restore some pride by winning the return leg and 125/1 for a 4-0 victory which is their biggest hope of getting through.
Thursday’s second leg in Italy kicks off at 8pm and is live on BT Sport.
Roma v Manchester United Match Odds
Manchester United have performed better on their travels in the Premier League this season than at home so there is little to suggest they will fall apart in the second leg.
This is their third trip to Italy in the knockout stage of this season’s Europa League and they are yet to concede a goal in their two previous outings, beating Real Sociedad 4-0 at the home of Juventus and then AC Milan 1-0.
Another win to nil for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can be backed at 13/4 while ‘no’ in the both teams to score market is an option for Roma v Manchester United betting tips at 8/5.
Roma have failed to beat any of the top six in Serie A this season but have shared score draws at home with Inter Milan, Atalanta and Juventus and another score draw on Thursday is priced at 16/5.
Roma v Manchester United Head-to-Head
United’s 6-2 victory last week was their third successive win in meetings with Roma and they have now won five of their seven encounters.
They have had mixed fortunes in Rome, though, losing 2-1 in a Champions League quarter-final in 2007 with Solskjaer in the team before making amends by winning the return leg 7-1.
United drew 1-1 here in the group stage of the 2007/8 competition and won 2-0 when they met again in the quarter-finals before going on to lift the trophy.
Previous XI
Roma: Lopez, Karsdorp, Ibanez, Smalling, Spinazzola, Cristante, Pellegrini, Veretout, Diawara, Mkhitaryan, Dzeko.
Manchester United: De Gea, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Pogba, Fred, Fernandes, McTominay, Cavani, Rashford.
Team news
Daniel James has not travelled with the United squad due to injury.
James joins Anthony Martial and Phil Jones on the sidelines, with Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga named as part of the 24-man squad heading to Italy.
Key Battles
There are plenty of familiar faces in the Roma squad with two former United players taking on their old club in the first leg.
Chris Smalling was at the heart of the defence but could do nothing to prevent Edinson Cavani scoring a second-half double to turn the game in United’s favour.
Bruno Fernandes also bagged a brace to continue his impressive season and odds of 5/4 are on offer for United to win and the midfielder to have at least one shot on target.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is another former United man lining up against the Red Devils while ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is no stranger to scoring against United, as he did in the first leg, and is 15/8 to get on the scoresheet once more.
