West Ham v Liverpool betting tips: Reds have Hammers’ number
Preview and odds for Sunday’s Premier League clash
The Hammers bid to jump above the Reds in the Premier League table when they clash at the London Stadium on Sunday, so we look at the odds to find some West Ham v Liverpool betting tips.
Liverpool put five past Manchester United at Old Trafford on their last road trip, while West Ham hope to extend their winning run to four games after downing Aston Villa at Villa Park last week.
Sunday’s match, which takes place at the London Stadium, kicks off at 4.30pm and is live on Sky Sports.
West Ham v Liverpool match odds
West Ham have been on something of a roll in recent weeks. They have reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup, knocking out both Manchester teams, and are fourth in the Premier League table with 20 points from 10 games following their 4-1 win at Villa Park last Sunday.
They also top their Europa League group and only reigning champions Manchester City (80) and Champions League winners Chelsea (66) have attained more Premier League points in 2021 than West Ham (62).
They have benefitted from a settled side, with David Moyes making just four changes to his starting XI and the Hammers have used fewer different players (18) than any other side in the top flight. It helps that they have had no significant injuries for an extended period of time, as was the case when Liverpool won the title for the first time in 30 years in 2019.
The Hammers, who have won their last three – at Everton, at home to Tottenham and at Aston Villa – are 17/5 to beat Liverpool, who sit second in the table, three points behind leaders Chelsea after their 2-2 home draw with Brighton last weekend.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 20 league games (W14 D6) and have scored at least once in every game. They are understandable favourites in West Ham v Liverpool betting tips at 7/10.
The Reds have scored at least three goals in each of their last six away league games, netting 22 goals in total.
In the entire history of the Football League, only one team has ever scored three or more times in seven consecutive away league games, with Birmingham City doing so between November 1892 and September 1893 in the second tier. Liverpool are 17/10 to score three or more goals this time.
The Hammers have picked up one point from the last possible 27 against Liverpool, securing a 1-1 draw at home in February 2019. The draw is available at odds of 3/1.
West Ham v Liverpool head-to-head
West Ham have won just 28 of their 143 meetings with Liverpool, with the last of those victories being a 2-1 FA Cup win in February 2016.
Since then, Liverpool have won eight and drawn two of the subsequent 10 meetings. They have won the last four meetings but only twice before have they won five or more consecutive games against the Hammers.
Liverpool have won four of their last five away league games against West Ham (D1) and are looking to win three in a row at the Hammers for the first time since doing so between 2003 and 2007.
Nine of the last 11 meetings yielded three goals or more and it is 1/2 that this will be the case on Sunday.
West Ham v Liverpool key battles
Liverpool have scored 19 goals in their first five away Premier League games this season, with only two sides in the history of the top flight ever scoring more at this stage – Manchester United in 1907-08 and Manchester City in 2011-12 (both 20).
Chief protagonist is Mohamed Salah, who has scored in each of Liverpool’s first five away Premier League games this season. He is 5/6 to score at any time in West Ham v Liverpool betting tips and stopping him is likely to be key to a result for the Hammers, who are 11/10 to avoid defeat.
