Preview and odds for Sunday’s Premier League clash

West Ham welcome Premier League new boys Brentford to the London Stadium on Sunday and we have looked at the odds to find some West Ham v Brentford betting tips.

The Hammers return from Europa League action looking to build on last weekend’s 2-1 win at Leeds, while Brentford held Liverpool to a draw at home.

Sunday’s match, which takes place at the London Stadium, kicks off at 2.00pm.

West Ham v Brentford match odds

West Ham came from behind to defeat Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road last weekend with Michail Antonio netting a ruthless, last-gasp winner.

It put them into seventh place in the Premier League table, three points behind leaders Liverpool and two places and two points above Brentford, who held the Reds to a 3-3 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium.

West Ham are 4/5 to down the Bees, although they do not have a great record against opponents who are in the top flight for the first time. They have lost their last four against such sides – Wigan (2005-06), Reading (2006-07), Hull (2008-09) and Bournemouth (2015-16).

They do have a good recent home record, however. Only Manchester City (34) and Tottenham (28) have earned more points in home Premier League games in 2021 so far than West Ham (26).

While they were unfortunate to lose 2-1 at home to Manchester United, the Hammers have not lost back-to-back home games since David Moyes returned to manage them in January 2020.

Brentford have two wins and a draw from their three away games thus far and their only defeat at all venues came at the hands of Brighton, who stole the points with a last-gasp winner three weeks ago.

The Bees, who are 18/5 to win, have had the benefit of a settled side, making just three changes to their starting XI this season.

Very few teams go unbeaten in their first four away matches, but Thomas Frank’s side are 13/5 to draw the game, while it is evens that they win or draw the game on the Double Chance market.

West Ham v Brentford head-to-head

This is the first league meeting between West Ham and Brentford since April 1993, when the Hammers won 4-0 at Upton Park in a campaign that saw West Ham promoted and the Bees relegated from the second tier.

Each of the previous 20 league games between the sides took place in the second tier, with Brentford’s last win against West Ham coming in the 1953-54 season (though they’ve only met in 1992-93 since then).

The Hammers have conceded at least once in each of their three home games, while Brentford have netted 12 goals in their last three games in all competitions.

It is 4/5 that both sides score in the West Ham v Brentford betting tips.

West Ham v Brentford key battles

The Hammers could be fatigued after Thursday’s Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna, although it appears that Antonio, who has been involved in more goals than any other Premier League player this season – five goals, three assists in five appearances – will not be rested yet. He is 7/5 to score at any time.

Brentford have had seven different players score for them in the Premier League so far this season so the threat comes from the collective, although Ivan Toney is the 15/8 favourite to score at any time.

The Hammers have kept one clean sheet at home in the last eight and it is 1/3 that Brentford score, and 5/2 that they net two or more.
