Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

The Hornets host the Saints in a Premier League clash on Saturday so we have examined the odds to find some Watford v Southampton betting tips.

Watford bounced back from a thrashing by Liverpool to crush Everton at Goodison Park last weekend while Southampton were held at home by Burnley.

The match, which takes place at Vicarage Road, kicks off at 3pm.

Watford v Southampton match odds

Having been appointed as Watford manager, Claudio Ranieri’s return to the Premier League did not get off to the best start.

Yet after being hammered 5-0 at home by Liverpool, the Hornets bounced back in style by winning 5-2 at Everton last weekend.

That was Watford’s third victory of the season and they sit in 14th place with 10 points from nine games.

Those five goals were more than they had scored in their previous seven league games combined (four).

The Hornets are looking to avoid back-to-back Premier League defeats at Vicarage Road for the first time since November 2019 and are 3/5 to do that in the Double Chance market.

It is 21/10 they secure their fourth win of the campaign.

Southampton are becoming the draw specialists of the Premier League.

Five of their nine games have ended all-square, the latest a 2-2 home draw with Burnley, and it is 23/10 this clash ends in a stalemate.

They also drew at Chelsea on Tuesday in the League Cup but were sent spinning out 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have won just once this season in the league and are two places and a point below Watford.

Their away form has been poor.

Saints are winless in nine league outings overall (D2 L7) and it is over six years since they last went 10 games without a win on the road.

In fact, they have won just one of their last 17 away games in the league (D4 L12) – a 2-0 triumph at Sheffield United in March – and are 5/4 to prevail here.

Watford v Southampton head-to-head

If Southampton are to break their winless road streak, Vicarage Road is a decent destination.

The south coast club haven’t lost an away league match against Watford since September 2007 (W3 D4 since), beating them 3-1 on their last visit in June 2020.

In fact, Watford have won just one of their last 13 league meetings with the Saints (D6 L6) since a 2-0 triumph at St Mary’s in September 2017. The visitors are 1/3 to win or draw the game.

Seven of the last eight league encounters saw both sides find the net and it is 4/6 this will be the case again.

Watford v Southampton key battles

Watford have impressed going forward at times but they need to tighten up at the back.

They are without a clean sheet in nine Premier League games at Vicarage Road and have conceded 20 goals, at an average of 2.2 goals per game, in that run. It is 11/10 Southampton score two or more goals.

Saints have had problems holding on to a lead, as they showed when allowing Burnley to level last weekend.

Since Hasenhuttl’s first game in charge in December 2018, Southampton have dropped more points from winning positions than any other side in the Premier League (64).

The odds for Southampton to lead at half-time but fail to win are 10/1.
