Watford v Chelsea betting tips: Ranieri reunion once again
Preview and odds for Wednesday’s match
Claudio Ranieri lost to one of his former clubs at the weekend and now faces another as we pick out some Watford v Chelsea betting tips.
The Hornets start the midweek round of matches just two places above the relegation zone after losing 4-2 at Leicester on Sunday and life gets even tougher for the Watford boss and his players this week as they host Chelsea and Manchester City in the space of four days.
Wednesday’s match at Vicarage Road kicks off at 7.30pm and is live on Amazon Prime.
Watford v Chelsea match odds
Watford have already defied the odds with their recent victory against Manchester United and October’s win at Everton and are very much the underdogs again here.
The Hornets are 9/1 for a fifth win of the season and 23/10 to avoid defeat, with the draw 4/1.
Chelsea have dropped points in two of their last three games, having been held to 1-1 draws at Stamford Bridge by both Burnley and Manchester United, so there is some hope for the hosts.
The Blues have won five out of six on their travels, though, with the only blemish being a creditable 1-1 draw at title rivals Liverpool.
Chelsea are 4/11 for the victory and given they have kept clean sheets in nine of their 10 league wins this season, an away win to nil looks worth the extra risk in Watford v Chelsea betting tips at 23/20.
Watford v Chelsea head-to-head
Chelsea have done the double over Watford in each of the Hornets’ last two seasons in the Premier League.
Their last two trips to Vicarage Road both ended in a 2-1 win – followed on both occasions by a 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge – and another 2-1 win on Wednesday is priced at 15/2.
Both teams to score again is evens while a Chelsea win and over 2.5 goals, which has paid out in seven of the last eight meetings, is the same price.
Watford v Chelsea key battles
Romelu Lukaku has been on the bench for Chelsea’s last two matches and was introduced late on against United on Sunday so Thomas Tuchel must decide whether the time is right to give the striker more minutes on the pitch.
Lukaku is the 7/2 favourite to score first and the same price to net last, which may appeal in Watford v Chelsea betting tips if he is a substitute once again.
Breaking down Chelsea’s defence remains a tough task but Watford at least have a striker in form in Josh King, who has scored five goals in as many games.
King is 7/2 to add to his tally here or 7/1 to score and be on the losing team as he was on Sunday at Leicester.
