Preview and odds for Saturday’s match

Fulham are facing up to another season back in the Championship and Southampton will hope to take advantage at St Mary’s.

Monday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley was the final nail in the coffin for Scott Parker’s men, who only came up through the play-offs last year.

That result ensured Southampton were already safe before getting back to winning ways on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory at home to Crystal Palace.

Saturday’s match is live on Sky Sports and kicks off at 3pm as we highlight a few potential Southampton v Fulham betting tips.

Southampton v Fulham match odds

Fulham’s motivation levels could be forgiven for dropping after any hope of survival was extinguished and they are 29/10 underdogs heading into the St Mary’s clash.

The Cottagers have picked up a solitary point from seven matches since their victory over Liverpool at Anfield in March, scoring just three goals in that time.

Southampton are evens for their second win of the week while a Saints win to nil is available at 12/5.

Fulham have only lost six games on their travels, though, and have had the most away draws this season with eight, with another priced up at 12/5.

Stuart Armstrong, Fulham

Southampton v Fulham head-to-head

Fulham have been involved in five goalless draws this season and one of those was against Southampton on Boxing Day when Saints had two goals disallowed by VAR.

Shane Long and Theo Walcott both looked to have broken the deadlock for the visitors in the second half, only to have their efforts ruled out for offside on review.

There were just three shots on target during the game, with possession also evenly shared between the sides, and another 0-0 draw can be backed at 9/1.

Backing both teams to score has only paid out once in the last seven meetings so taking ‘no’ in this market is an option at 19/20.

Previous XI

Southampton vs Fulham - Football tactics and formations
Southampton: Forster, Walker-Peters, Vestergaard, Stephens, Bednarek, Ward-Prowse, Redmond, Armstrong, Minamino, Ings, Adams.

Fulham: Areola, Tete, Andersen, Adarabioyo, Robinson, Lemina, Zambo, Mitrovic, Decordova-Reid, Cavaleiro, Lookman.

Key battles

Southampton were boosted by the return of Danny Ings against Palace and their top scorer bagged a brace, including his 100th goal in club football.

Saints are much more of a threat with Ings in the team and he is 6/4 to be on target again or 7/2 to open the scoring.

In contrast, Fulham have looked short of quality at both ends and especially in the final third but centre-back Joachim Andersen has impressed and will be out to do so again by keeping Ings quiet having been linked with a move to Tottenham.
