Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

The Saints and the Clarets square off in a Premier League scrap so we have examined the odds to find some Southampton v Burnley betting tips.

Southampton won their first game of the season last week while Burnley remain rooted in the bottom three after being beaten at Manchester City.

Saturday’s match, which takes place at St Mary’s, kicks off at 3pm.

Southampton v Burnley match odds

The Saints sit 15th in the Premier League table with seven points from eight games.

They got off the mark when beating Leeds 1-0 with Armando Broja’s 53rd-minute strike last weekend, noteworthy since the striker is the first Albanian player to score in the Premier League.

Goals have been a problem for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Only Burnley and Norwich have scored fewer than the Saints’ six this term, despite buying last season’s Championship top scorer Adam Armstrong from Blackburn in the summer for £30million to replace Danny Ings.

The 24-year-old has found the net once since his arrival, having scored 29 goals last season. He is 13/8 to score at any time.

It may not help his cause that Che Adams is ruled out with a muscle injury and captain James Ward-Prowse is suspended.

Yet, in fairness, the Saints have run Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham close this season and are 19/20 to win a second successive game at home in the Southampton v Burnley betting tips.

No team in the top four divisions is on a longer winless run than Burnley (P11 D3 L8), with Sean Dyche’s side failing to score in seven of those 11 games.

They have three points from eight games and have not helped themselves by allowing leads to slip.

All five of Burnley’s Premier League goals this season have put them ahead in the match (including twice against Leicester) and it is 31/20 they score the first goal.

However, the Clarets are still without a win, dropping a joint-high 10 points from winning positions (along with Newcastle).

Burnley are 3/1 to win while the draw, which has been the outcome in three of the last seven meetings between the two, is on offer at odds of 5/2.

Southampton v Burnley head-to-head

Southampton won home and away against Burnley in the Premier League last season, as many victories as they had managed in their first 10 meetings with them in the competition before then (D3 L5).

Burnley have won two of their last four away league games against Southampton (D1 L1) and are 20/23 to either win or draw the game on the Double Chance market.

Three of the last nine meetings saw three or more total goals scored and it is 5/6 there will be under 2.5 this time.

The previous eight meetings have alternated between both sides scoring and one or the other not.

The last clash saw both sides net and it is evens that one or both draw a blank this time in the Southampton v Burnley betting tips.

Southampton v Burnley key battles

Southampton have conceded just one goal in the first half of Premier League games so far this season, with only Manchester City shipping fewer in the opening 45 minutes.

However, Saints have only netted twice before half-time themselves so far this term.

Given Burnley’s penchant for taking the lead and fluffing their lines, the odds of 10/1 for Southampton to win from behind may tempt some.
