Preview and odds for Friday’s Premier League clash

Both teams are still searching for their first win of the Premier League season so we have scouted the odds to find some Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.

The Magpies have conceded at least two goals in each of their four opening games while Marcelo Bielsa’s side have also leaked more than two in three of their four outings.

Friday’s match, which takes place at St James’ Park, kicks off at 8pm BST and is live on Sky Sports.

Newcastle v Leeds match odds

The Magpies find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League with one point from four games.

Manager Steve Bruce will feel their last home game – against Southampton – was two points dropped rather than one gained after the Saints scored in stoppage time to level things at 2-2.

Newcastle were on the receiving end of a 4-1 hammering at Old Trafford in Cristiano Ronaldo’s second debut for Manchester United and they have conceded 12 goals in their four games – more than any other team in the league.

They are 21/10 to beat a Leeds side who suffered heavy defeats to Liverpool and Manchester United and ended with the points shared in a pulsating encounter with Everton.

Their 1-1 draw at Burnley was a little underwhelming but Bielsa’s side have had a tough start and they will be desperate to kick-start their season with a victory.

Leeds have not failed to win any of their first five league games in a top-flight campaign since 1946-47, when they finished bottom, and are 5/4 to win the clash, with the draw on offer at 13/5 in the Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.

Newcastle v Leeds head-to-head

Newcastle were defeated in both league meetings with Leeds last season, having lost just one of their previous 11 against the Whites (W7 D3).

It is 4/6 for Newcastle to win or draw the game in the Double Chance market in the Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.

Bruce is starting to feel the pressure and, having won seven of his first nine games as a manager against Leeds (L2), he will hope for a change in fortune as he has won just one of his last nine against them in all competitions (D3 L5).

Newcastle have only failed to score in one of their last 15 league meetings with Leeds (W8 D3 L4), going down 2-0 at home in September 2002.

Given their penchant for conceding, despite having experienced internationals like Republic of Ireland centre-half Ciaran Clark (pictured above), the odds for the hosts to win but concede are 15/4.

Leeds are looking to win three consecutive league games against Newcastle for the first time since October 1967 while they haven’t won back-to-back away league games against the Magpies since April 1958.

It is worth noting Newcastle scored first in each of their two home games this season and are 23/20 to grab the first goal and it is 21/5 they lead at half-time and full-time.

Newcastle v Leeds key battles

Newcastle have not been defensively sound and keeping a clean sheet has been a problem.

Only Southampton (three) have kept fewer in the Premier League in 2021 than Newcastle’s four so Leeds striker Patrick Bamford will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet and is 6/4 to score at any time.

With the visitors short-handed at the back, livewire Allan Saint-Maximin could cause problems and is 11/5 to strike at any time in the Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.

No less than 10 of the last 15 meetings saw three goals or more – including the last three clashes – and it is 1/2 that both sides net this time and 8/13 there will be three or more goals in the game.
