Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

Newcastle seek their first three points as they host the European champions so we look at the odds to find some Newcastle v Chelsea betting tips.

The Magpies gained their fourth draw of the season when holding Crystal Palace 1-1 at Selhurst Park last weekend while Chelsea barely came out of second gear in romping to an emphatic 7-0 win over Norwich.

Saturday’s match, which takes place at St James’ Park, kicks off at 3pm.

Newcastle v Chelsea match odds

Graeme Jones, who stepped into departed Steve Bruce’s shoes as interim manager, will have been pleased with the reaction from his Newcastle players despite not coming away with more than a point from Selhurst Park.

He still boasts the same players who have conceded 20 goals in nine Premier League games and who have failed to win all season.

Now there is just the small matter of the European champions, fresh from their slaughter of Norwich.

Callum Wilson’s spectacular overhead kick was one of two shots on target Newcastle created and Palace really should have won, with Christian Benteke hitting the woodwork twice and somehow missing three glorious chances.

Only twice in their history have the Magpies failed to win any of their opening 10 games to a league campaign and, oddly, they escaped relegation on both occasions.

They are 2/1 to avoid defeat and 8/1 to win the game.

The Magpies’ woes start with the defence, which has managed to keep a clean sheet just twice since the beginning of last season.

Newcastle are 8/1 to beat Chelsea and 7/1 to not be breached.

Thomas Tuchel’s visitors chase a fourth consecutive Premier League win for only the second time in his tenure.

They previously did so in February, with the fourth game in that run coming against Newcastle.

The Blues have been in great form in recent weeks and reached the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday after a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Southampton following a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel’s troops sit a point clear of Liverpool and the rest of the chasing pack at the top of the Premier League table and are 4/11 to win and 6/5 to prevail to nil.

The draw, which has occurred in just one of the last 19 meetings, is on offer at odds of 15/4.

Newcastle v Chelsea head-to-head

Newcastle have lost five of their last six Premier League meetings with Chelsea, winning the other 1-0 in January 2020, and have won just two of the last 12 encounters in all competitions.

It is 21/10 they win or draw the game in the Double Chance market.

Chelsea have won two of their last three Premier League away games against Newcastle (L1), more than they had in their previous seven visits to St James’ Park (W1 D2 L4).

Newcastle v Chelsea key battles

Chelsea have conceded just three goals this term so Wilson, with six goals in his last six Premier League games, will have to be at his best to unlock a tight Blues defence. He is 23/10 to score at any time.

There have been 14 different scorers for Chelsea this season, with Mason Mount involved in more league goals than anyone in Tuchel’s squad, scoring seven times and adding four assists.

Mount is 13/10 to score at any stage, having netted a hat-trick against Norwich.
