Preview and odds for Saturday’s match

Two of the bottom three in the Premier League clash with vital points on the line as we search through the odds to pick out some Newcastle v Burnley betting tips.

Both the Magpies and the Clarets feature in our relegation odds and the respective managers, Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche, will be eager to come out on top in this one.

Saturday’s match at St James’ Park kicks off at 3pm.

Newcastle v Burnley match odds

If Howe had any illusions about the mammoth task he has on his hands in the north east, then Wednesday’s draw with Norwich would have served as a stark reminder.

The Magpies are the only side in the top four divisions yet to record a victory and they are shackled to the bottom spot in the Premier League.

They are 13/10 for a first success here, but even that is unlikely to move them up too far in the table due to the visitors’ superior goal difference.

Burnley are 11/5 to extend their advantage over Newcastle to six points, while it is 12/5 for them to maintain a three-point gap with a draw.

The Clarets extended their unbeaten run to four when playing out a goalless draw with Wolves in midweek and another goalless stalemate is 10/1 in Newcastle v Burnley betting tips.

However, with  vital points in the relegation scrap up for grabs, a free-flowing game could be on the cards, with both teams to score 7/10.

Newcastle struck first against Norwich on Tuesday night and it is 17/20 for the Magpies to find the net first, while both sides went into the break at 0-0 in midweek and a goalless first half is 17/10 here.

Chris Wood, Burnley, Newcastle v Burnley betting tips

Newcastle v Burnley head-to-head

Newcastle did the double over Burnley last season by scores of 3-1 and 2-1 and the Tyneside faithful would be overjoyed to see a repeat of either of those scorelines.

You can get 13/4 for a Newcastle victory with both teams scoring this time, while it is 27/10 for a Magpies win and over 2.5 goals in Newcastle v Burnley betting tips.

Allan Saint-Maximin scored for the Toon in both fixtures versus Burnley last season and he is 8/1 to break the deadlock and 5/1 to be Newcastle’s first goalscorer in the match.

Newcastle v Burnley key battles

Howe relied heavily on Callum Wilson for firepower when they worked together at Bournemouth and he could be the man that gives the Burnley back-line most to think about.

He grabbed his fifth of the season when opening the scoring from the penalty spot against Norwich last time and he is 16/5 to repeat that feat here.

With the Newcastle back-line yet to keep a clean sheet in the league, then they might need to fight fire with fire to turn around their season.

Therefore, Wilson, who is responsible for almost a third of Newcastle’s goals so far, may have to strike more than one as he did in this fixture last term. Two or more goals for the 29-year-old is 6/1 in Newcastle v Burnley betting tips.
