Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

Eddie Howe takes charge of his first game in the north-east with the Magpies looking for a turnaround in their fortunes as we look through the odds to pick out some Newcastle v Brentford betting tips.

Newcastle are the 11/10 third favourites in the Premier League relegation odds and are the only side yet to register a victory in the top flight this season, while Brentford are looking to halt a run of four straight losses.

Saturday’s clash, which takes place at St James’ Park, kicks off at 3pm.

Newcastle v Brentford match odds

With the search for a new manager complete, Newcastle will be hoping to get down to the business of winning football matches with the task at hand looking tough for Howe.

However, two draws from three games since Steve Bruce’s departure offers encouragement and there will be optimism on Tyneside that the former Bournemouth man can steer them to safety.

Brentford have slipped to 14th in the table following a poor string of results and Thomas Frank will be desperate to avoid a fifth straight defeat which would leave them hovering perilously above the drop zone.

It is 33/20 for the Magpies to start the Howe era with a victory, while Brentford are 7/4 to stop the rot in Newcastle v Brentford betting tips.

A third draw in four for Newcastle can be found at 23/20, with both sides’ recent records suggesting both teams to score is highly possible at 7/10.

All five of Newcastle’s five Premier League points have come courtesy of a score draw and that is 16/5, while another 1-1 scoreline can be backed at 11/2.

Newcastle v Brentford head-to-head

This is the first Premier League clash between these two with four of their recent contests taking place while both were in the Championship.

Newcastle won all four of those matches, while Brentford registered their first victory over the north-east side in their most recent encounter, which came in the EFL Cup.

That tie was decided by a solitary goal and another 1-0 victory for the Bees is 8/1 in Newcastle v Brentford betting tips, with 19/5 available for them to win to nil.

Ivan Toney, Newcastle v Brentford betting tips

Before that Newcastle dominated some entertaining clashes in the second tier with no less than three goals per game.

You can get 10/11 for over 2.5 this time, with the hosts 7/5 to score two or more goals.

Newcastle v Brentford key battles

The main focus for Howe is to start picking up victories in any way possible in the hope of escaping the dreaded drop zone.

With Saudi Arabian billions waiting to be spent in the January transfer window, the former Cherries gaffer doesn’t have too long to wait before he can start crafting his own squad.

Until then he will have to make do with the remaining foot soldiers of the Bruce era and he gets the chance to link up with one of his former Bournemouth charges, Callum Wilson.

Wilson was instrumental during Howe’s time at the south-coast club and regularly topped the club’s scoring charts.

The 29-year-old is responsible for a third of Newcastle’s goals this season and is 11/8 to bag his fifth of the season at St James’ Park.

The Magpies will also be looking to keep Brentford talisman Ivan Toney quiet and he is 7/2 to break the deadlock in Newcastle v Brentford betting tips.

A #YourCall special for both of those players to find the scoresheet at anytime and the game to end in a draw can be backed at 11/1.
