Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League match

Premier League champions Manchester City lost to Tottenham for the second time this season last weekend and having seen their lead cut to three points, they have the chance to extend that to six as we pick out some Everton v Manchester City betting tips.

Things were looking rosy for Pep Guardiola’s side only a few weeks ago when they opened up a double-figure points lead on Liverpool at the top of the table.

But the Reds have taken maximum points from the games they had in hand and with City losing for just the third time this season, the title race looks well and truly back on.

City are the heavy 2/7 favourites to quickly bounce back with a victory in Everton v Manchester City betting tips but you can get 11/1 for the Toffees to do their Merseyside rivals a favour and secure a much-needed victory.

Saturday’s match at Goodison Park kicks off at 5.30pm and is live on Sky Sports.

Toffees in trouble

It has been a case of all or nothing for Everton since Frank Lampard has been in the dugout, with a 3-0 win over Leeds sandwiched by lacklustre defeats to Newcastle and Southampton.

Everton now find themselves just two points above the drop zone and have definitely been sucked into the battle for survival.

If Lampard took the job at Goodison Park unaware of the severity of the task at hand, he only has to look at the Premier League table to see the danger that is hanging over Everton, who have games against Tottenham, Wolves and Newcastle following this match with the champions.

However, things could get worse before it gets better on Merseyside.

It has been 10 league and cup games since they last beat City and the odds combined with recent form suggest their winless run against the champions is unlikely to end on Saturday evening.

Injuries to key personnel has plagued the Toffees all season and it is worrying that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet to find the scoresheet since returning from his spell on the sidelines.

He will need to add to the three goals he scored earlier in the season if Everton are to quickly escape danger and could prove key in the final third of the season.

The England international is 3/1 to get on the scoresheet at any time against Manchester City while it is 7/2 for him to be the Toffees’ first goalscorer.

Calvert-Lewin to score two or more goals, the hosts to win or draw and over 3.5 match goals is a massive 50/1 in Everton v Manchester City betting tips.

Guardiola gunning for maximum points

Nothing less than three points will suffice for Guardiola as his side look to rebuild the gap at the top of the Premier League while Liverpool’s attention is focused on the Carabao Cup final

Guardiola’s failure to secure the signature of Harry Kane came back to bite him last weekend as Tottenham inflicted a rare defeat on City in a five-goal thriller at the Etihad but that result looks more of a frustration than anything major to worry about and their form before that was nothing but impressive.

They all-but ended their Champions League last-16 tie with Sporting Lisbon within the first half and have more than one foot in the last eight following a 5-0 win in Portugal while before that they put four past Norwich when in top-flight action.

Riyad Mahrez has scored five in five since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations and looks a good bet to get on the scoresheet in Everton v Manchester City betting tips.

The Algeria international is 10/3 to break the deadlock and 9/1 to grab a goal in both halves.

Raheem Sterling followed up his hat-trick against the Canaries with a goal in the win over Lisbon and is another to keep an eye on in this match.

He is 23/20 to find the net at any time while the England star can be backed at 13/10 to strike in a City win.

Mahrez to score anytime, Sterling to score anytime and Manchester City to win is 10/3 as a #YourCall option, with the Algerian to score two or more goals in a win or draw for the visitors and over 3.5 match goals a more-than-tempting 13/2.

Head-to-head

Manchester City have racked up 10 unanswered goals in their last three head-to-head fixtures against the Toffees and having kept a clean sheet in three of their last four, another win to nil could be on the cards here at 11/10

City won 3-0 when the pair clashed earlier this season while their last meeting at Goodison Park finished 3-1 in favour of the visitors.

A repeat of those scorelines is 7/1 and 10/1 respectively while City took the lead in both of those contests and are 2/7 to grab the first goal of the game in Everton v Manchester City betting tips.

Guardiola’s side have gone in ahead at half-time in the last two Premier League matches between these two and are 8/11 to win the first 45. It is also 20/23 for the visitors in the half-time/full-time result market.

Key trends

There have been plenty of goals involving these two sides recently, with both of City’s last two having five match goals and at least three goals in three of Everton’s last four.

You can get 13/10 for over 3.5 this time around while a goal-fest and over 4.5 offers bigger odds at 3/1.

Manchester City to win a game involving 3.5 goals is 3/4 but there has just been one draw in a match featuring any of these two in 2022 and that looks very unlikely at 19/4.

Everton failed to score against Southampton last week and also in their last three against City and it is 10/11 for them to draw a blank once again.

City to win either half, score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet can be backed at 13/8 in Everton v Manchester City betting tips.
