Preview and odds for Sunday’s Premier League clash

The Red Devils have the chance to put a dent in their big rivals’ Premier League title aspirations as we pick out some Manchester City v Manchester United betting tips for what is undoubtedly this weekend’s biggest game in the top flight.

Although still favourites in our Premier League winner odds, City have seen their lead at the top of the table cut to just six points in recent weeks and will be desperate not to surrender bragging rights to United, who are unbeaten in eight in the top division and will be eager to enhance their chances of claiming the all-important fourth spot in the table.

The hosts are 4/11 to do the double over United this season, while Ralf Rangnick’s side are 8/1 for the win and 4/1 to keep their unbeaten run going with a share of the spoils.

Sunday’s match at the Etihad Stadium kicks off at 4.30pm and is live on Sky Sports.

City hoping to maintain momentum

Pep Guardiola’s City side have done little wrong of late, but having looked home and hosed in the defence of their Premier League title, now look set to do battle with Liverpool for the trophy and they can’t afford too many slip-ups before the end of the season.

The gap at the top would have been even tighter if they hadn’t been the fortunate recipients of a timely VAR mistake at Goodison Park last weekend when Rodri clearly handled the ball in the penalty area.

However, the Cityzens will take their luck while they can and will be eager to improve a horrendous home record against their neighbours from the red half of Manchester, winning only once at the Etihad since 2014.

City’s last home success over the Red Devils came via a 3-1 scoreline in 2018. It is 10/1 for a repeat of that result, while Ilkay Gundogan got on the scoresheet then and is 9/4 to find the net once again on Sunday afternoon.

Guardiola’s side have kept five clean sheets in their last six and it is 21/20 for the defence to shine once again in Manchester City v Manchester United betting tips, while the hosts to win either half, score over 1.5 goals and also keep a clean sheet makes some appeal as a #YourCall pick at 9/4.

Rangnick relying on fine away record

Despite the Old Trafford faithful’s hesitancy to admit Rangnick is doing a good job in charge of the 13-time Premier League champions, it is hard to overly grumble at their current league position.

Admittedly, they have perhaps lost points in games they should be winning, but they are fourth and have a great chance of returning Champions League football to Old Trafford next season.

United have looked much more comfortable on the road this season, and they are unbeaten away from home since Rangnick’s arrival in the dugout. Although the outsiders here, their record at the Etihad is a fine one and they have won four of the last five head-to-head clashes there.

The last two have been a win to nil for United and that is a massive 16/1 to happen again in Manchester City v Manchester United betting tips, while it is the same odds for a United victory and under 2.5 total goals.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring within the first five minutes in this fixture last season and the Portuguese midfielder is 10/1 to break the deadlock once again, while United to be winning after 15 minutes can be found at 12/1.

Head-to-head

Remarkably four of the last five contests between these two have finished 2-0, with City winning by that scoreline at Old Trafford earlier this season and United winning the last fixture played at the Etihad by that number.

It is 6/1 for City to triumph by that scoreline, while United are a massive 55/1 to do the same in Manchester City v Manchester United betting tips.

For Guardiola’s team to win to nil it is 13/10, while there have been three or more goals only three times in the last 10 head-to-heads and under 2.5 could pay dividend here at 6/5.

Recent history suggests that both teams to score is unlikely at 17/20 but with plenty at stake, a goalless stalemate could be a possibility at 14/1.

Key trends

Barring their six-goal thriller with Leeds, seven of United’s last eight games in all competitions have seen no more than two goals. That is a complete contrast to City who, last weekend’s tense victory over Everton aside, have scored at least that number themselves in six of their last seven.

With two looking the key number, it may be worth taking a chance on exactly two goals in the game at 3/1, although a more solid looking option is to back the hosts at 4/9 to score over 1.5 goals.

City to win a game featuring over 1.5 goals is 3/5, while the hosts aren’t afraid of making a fast start and the first 45 to see the most goals is 12/5 in Manchester City v Manchester United betting tips.
