Everton v Liverpool betting tips: Benitez under pressure to stop the rot

| 30.11.2021

Preview and odds for Wednesday’s match

Rafael Benitez goes up against his former club but a Merseyside derby is not what his current team need right now as we pick out some Everton v Liverpool betting tips.

The Everton manager is under pressure after a dismal run of form and their fans could be forgiven for fearing the worst but a derby win would be the perfect way to silence the critics.

Wednesday’s match at Goodison Park kicks off at 8.15pm and is live on Amazon Prime.

Everton v Liverpool match odds

Everton won four of their first six games this season before drawing at Manchester United and things were looking promising for the Toffees.

Little has gone right since then, though, and injuries and suspensions have taken their toll as Everton have picked up just one point from their last six matches.

The latest setback came on Sunday when they lost 1-0 at Brentford after conceding a first-half penalty which Ivan Toney converted.

Everton were poor during the first half and while they improved after the break, Brentford goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez was rarely called into action.

The Everton fans made their feelings known at full-time, with some angry reactions when the players went over to applaud the travelling faithful.

Little wonder, therefore, that Everton are 7/1 for the win despite having home advantage on Wednesday while they are 2/1 just to avoid defeat.

Mo Salah, Everton v Liverpool betting tips

Liverpool, on the other hand, have cruised to back-to-back 4-0 victories at home to Arsenal and Southampton and are 2/5 to win here where the handicap market may be a better option for Everton v Liverpool betting tips.

The Reds are 21/20 to win by at least two goals, 13/5 to win by three or more and 16/1 for another 4-0 victory.

Everton v Liverpool head-to-head

Everton are in the rare position of having the bragging rights in this fixture after their 2-0 win at Anfield in February.

Richarlison put the Toffees ahead in only the third minute before Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late penalty sealed Everton’s first Merseyside derby win at Anfield in 22 years.

It was also their first victory in the last 23 meetings with Liverpool although the previous two, both at Goodison Park, were both drawn and that trend is 19/5 to continue.

Everton have scored two goals in three of the last four Merseyside derbies and are 3/1 to net at least twice here.

Everton v Liverpool key battles

The return of Richarlison from suspension is a much-needed boost for Benitez and the Brazilian forward is 9/1 to open the scoring or 16/5 to find the net at any time.

Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in all eight league wins this season, though, and an away win to nil at 6/4 is worth considering in Everton v Liverpool betting tips.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are also averaging three goals a game in the Premier League and are 13/10 to score at least three more, with Mo Salah the favourite in the first goalscorer odds at 13/5.

Salah is 2/1 to score more goals than Everton while Diogo Jota bagged a brace against Southampton at the weekend and is 6/1 to do so again.
