Preview, odds and Chelsea v Man Utd betting tips

Two teams who look set to be in contention for the Champions League places meet on Saturday evening as we study the odds to pick out some Chelsea v Man Utd betting tips.

The Blues start the day just one point ahead of their visitors and both teams head into the match in decent form ahead of what should be an entertaining encounter.

Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge kicks off at 5.30pm and is live on Sky Sports.

Chelsea v Man Utd form

Chelsea remain unbeaten under Graham Potter but had to settle for a point in midweek after a damp squib of a derby at Brentford finished goalless.

The Blues made the short trip across west London on the back of five successive victories in all competitions, winning each of the last four without conceding.

Once again they kept a clean sheet, but there was a distinct lack of cutting edge up front as they drew a blank against the Bees.

That allowed United to gain ground on them with an impressive victory at home to another top-four contender Tottenham.

Spurs were on the back foot from the outset and United ran out 2-0 winners as Fred’s deflected strike was followed up by an excellent curling effort from captain Bruno Fernandes.

It was the best performance of summer appointment Erik ten Hag’s reign and began with Antony hitting the outside of the post, while Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris produced a string of fine saves.

United had been held to a goalless draw by Newcastle three days earlier though so consistency remains an issue and opposing goals looks the safest option for our Chelsea v Man Utd betting tips with under 2.5 available at 20/21.

Chelsea v Man Utd recent meetings

The sense that these are two well-matched teams is backed up by the fact that the points have been shared in the last four meetings.

Both of last season’s Premier League encounters ended 1-1, with Jadon Sancho giving United the lead early in the second half at Stamford Bridge in November before Jorginho equalised from the penalty spot.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring for Chelsea on the hour mark at Old Trafford in April but Cristiano Ronaldo levelled two minutes later.

A draw looks a solid pick again at 12/5 while another goalless first half is added to our Chelsea v Man Utd betting tips at 9/5.

Player bets

Chelsea striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang had scored three times in his previous four matches but was left kicking his heels as his team-mates laboured in front of goal at Brentford.

Aubameyang was finally sent on with nine minutes remaining but his only half-chance was a low drive from outside the area which was easily gathered by Bees keeper David Raya.

Kai Havertz instead played 81 minutes in midweek so it would be little surprise if the roles are reversed on Saturday and Aubameyang starts.

Havertz is the player given offside the most in the Premier League this season and it will be interesting to see if Aubameyang plays the same sort of role and looks to get in behind United’s defence.

That certainly seems plausible so Coral’s #YourCall option of 14/1 for the former Arsenal man to have at least two shots on target and to be offside at least twice could be worth a small play.

From United’s perspective, we’re focusing on Fernandes who looks to be returning to his best, perhaps helped by the regular absence of Cristiano Ronaldo from the starting line-up.

Fernandes’ attacking stats dipped dramatically last season after the arrival of his Portugal team-mate, who seems unlikely to start given his reaction to being an unused substitute in midweek.

While Ronaldo grows increasingly frustrated, Fernandes often features prominently in his team’s best attacking play and has had the most shots on target (nine) of any United player in the Premier League this season.

For the last of our Chelsea v Man Utd betting tips, we’ll take 19/4 for him to have at least two shots on target here.
