Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

Chelsea sit proudly at the top of the Premier League and on Saturday they host the defending champions as we look at the odds for some Chelsea v Man City betting tips.

After winning the Champions League in May, the Blues have made a flying start to the domestic season and are unbeaten, having conceded just one goal, while City sit fifth after surprisingly being held at home by Southampton.

Saturday’s match, which takes place at Stamford Bridge, kicks off at 12.30pm and is live on BT Sport.

Chelsea v Man City match odds

This is repeat of last season’s Champions League final in Porto, in which Chelsea upset the odds and defeated City 1-0.

The new campaign has seen Thomas Tuchel’s side again looking solid at the back and they come into this off the back of a comprehensive 3-0 demolition of London neighbours Tottenham.

Chelsea’s only blemish was being held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool at Anfield, where they were reduced to 10 men for the entire second half.

They have won their other four Premier League starts, conceding just that one goal, and scoring 12 themselves. They are 17/10 to claim an important victory this weekend and are currently 2/1 to win the title but those odds will be slashed if they come out on top.

Man City, title favourites at 7/4, have dropped five points already this season, losing on the opening day at Tottenham and then being held to a goalless draw by Southampton last weekend.

Like Chelsea, they have conceded just once and they have notched 11 goals in their five games.

A win could put them top and Pep Guardiola’s side are 7/4 to do so while the draw is available at 9/4 in the Chelsea v Man City betting tips.

None of the last 12 Premier League meetings between the sides have been drawn though, with Chelsea winning five to City’s seven.

Chelsea v Man City head-to-head

Chelsea have won their last three meetings with Man City, which have come in three different competitions. They last had a longer winning run against the Citizens between December 2005 and March 2009 (eight games).

Man City have won three of their last six Premier League away games against Chelsea, more than they had in their previous 23 visits to Stamford Bridge in the top flight (W2 D8 L13). The Citizens are looking to win back-to-back top-flight games at Chelsea for the first time since January 1955.

Only four of the last 12 meetings in all competitions have seen both sides score. It is 19/20 that one or other draws a blank on Saturday.

Ten of the last 18 meetings saw a total of three goals or more scored and it 21/20 for three or more to be scored this time in the Chelsea v Man City betting tips.

Chelsea v Man City key battles

Neither side will give much away. Chelsea have kept 15 clean sheets in 24 Premier League games under Tuchel, more than any other side since the German took charge. They are 7/2 to win to nil and 11/5 to keep a clean sheet.

While Man City have failed to score in two of their Premier League games – as many as they had in their last 30 top-flight matches – they are stout at the back, conceding just once this term and are 9/4 to keep a clean sheet.

That won’t be easy, as Chelsea have had 10 different players scoring this season in five games. Hitman-in-chief has been Romelu Lukaku, who scored in three of their last four games before drawing a blank at Tottenham.

Lukaku is 7/5 to score at any time and 7/2 to score the first goal.
