Arsenal 40/1 for a top four Premier League finish

North London side are 15th after torrid start

After losing eight of their opening 14 Premier League matches, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are 40/1 to achieve a top four finish this season.

The Gunners fell to their eighth defeat of the campaign at the hands of Everton on Saturday and sit just four points above the drop zone.

After an eighth-placed finish last season, the Gunners could struggle to better that this campaign and are now 16/1 to be relegated from the top flight for the first time in their history.

Even after his impressive FA Cup win at the back end of last season, Mikel Arteta is now odds-on at 4/9 to have left his position as Arsenal manager by the end of the season.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “The betting now shows just what trouble Arsenal are in this season, with our odds making relegation a much greater prospect than a top-four finish. The Gunners are 16/1 to slip into the Championship, whilst Arteta is firmly odds-on to have been replaced by the end of the season.”

Elsewhere, Liverpool are now odds-on favourites to retain their Premier League title at 10/11 after their 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.

Manchester City are their nearest challengers at 9/4, with Manchester United cut to 8/2 after their 6-2 demolition of Leeds United on Sunday.

“Liverpool have gone odds-on in our betting for the Premier League winners, with City continuing to look below par and the Reds hitting top gear at Crystal Palace on Saturday,” added Aitkenhead.
