Preview and odds for World Cup qualifier

Brazil and Paraguay remain unbeaten in World Cup 2022 qualifying and put those records on the line in Asuncion in the early hours of Wednesday.

Brazil lead the way with five wins out of five and are well on course to book a ticket to next year’s finals in Qatar while Paraguay are firmly in the mix to join them.

Wednesday’s match is live on Premier Sports and kicks off at 1.30am as we highlight a few potential Paraguay v Brazil betting tips.

Paraguay v Brazil match odds

Brazil look set to cruise through qualifying with the minimum of fuss and they are 4/7 favourites to extend their perfect record in the clash at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco.

They had to be patient against Ecuador at the weekend when it took until the 65th minute for Everton forward Richarlison to break the deadlock after being set up by Neymar.

The PSG star then converted a penalty deep into stoppage time to complete a 2-0 win in which Ecuador failed to manage a shot on target.

It was a fourth clean sheet in five World Cup qualifiers for Brazil and another win to nil on Wednesday can be backed at 13/10 while Brazil are 8/5 to win by more than one goal.

Paraguay are 11/2 underdogs and have only managed one win so far – a 1-0 victory in Venezuela – but are proving hard to beat and have drawn their other four games.

The latest of those was a goalless stalemate in Uruguay on Thursday and Paraguay are 14/5 to hold Brazil to a draw here or 7/5 to avoid defeat.

Paraguay v Brazil head-to-head

Paraguay’s recent record against Brazil also suggests this game may not be a routine win for the super powers of South American football.

Brazil have only managed one win in the last six meetings with the other five all being drawn, with Paraguay going on to win two of those on penalties.

The most recent meeting was at the 2019 Copa America when Paraguay held out for a 0-0 draw despite having West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena (pictured) sent off just before the hour mark.

Another goalless affair this week is available at 15/2.

Previous XI

Paraguay vs Brazil - Football tactics and formations
Paraguay: Silva, Rojas, Alderete, Balbuena, Gomez, Gimenez, Almiron, Cardozo, O Romero, Villasanti, A Romero.

Brazil: Alisson, Danilo, Marquinhos, Sandro, Militao, Casemiro, Fred, Paqueta, Richarlison, Neymar, Barbosa.

Key battles

The key to this one looks set to be whether Brazil have the creativity to find a way through a Paraguay defence which has only conceded one goal in three away qualifiers against Venezuela, Argentina and Uruguay.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both failed to find the net in those games but Neymar will hope to make the breakthrough and is the 10/3 favourite in the first goalscorer odds or 11/8 to find the net at any time.

Paraguay are not without a threat of their own and Angel Romero, who plays for San Lorenzo in Argentina, has four goals during this campaign including two penalties. The 28-year-old is 4/1 to add to his tally.
