Southampton v Liverpool betting tips: Reds aim to take race to the wire
Southampton v Liverpool betting tips, odds and preview
The Premier League title race looks set to go to the last day of the season but Manchester City could be crowned champions on Tuesday night as we pick out some Southampton v Liverpool betting tips.
Defeat for the Reds would see Pep Guardiola’s City retain their title while a draw is of little use to Liverpool given the four-point gap and an inferior goal difference.
Tuesday’s match at St Mary’s kicks off at 7.45pm and is live on Sky Sports.
Reds still on for four trophies
Liverpool’s quadruple dream remains alive heading into the final week of the domestic season after they completed the second leg of what could be an historic campaign.
Saturday’s FA Cup triumph added to the Carabao Cup success earlier in the season and while a Premier League title looks unlikely, they will not want to concede defeat any sooner than they have to.
City dropped points at West Ham on Sunday and Liverpool are 1/3 to move to within a point of the leaders by winning at St Mary’s.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: “I am really looking forward to the game tomorrow. Is it a big chance? I wouldn’t say so because I don’t know when City last dropped points two games in a row.
“I don’t expect City to drop points but that has no influence on our game tomorrow. In an ideal world we’ll go into the last match one point behind.”
Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Brentford in September was the only time this season that they have conceded points against a team currently in the bottom half.
They have scored at least three goals in six of those nine away games and are 23/20 to do so again as the first of our Southampton v Liverpool betting tips.
Klopp selection up in the air
Motivation should not be an issue for Liverpool but fatigue and injuries could be a factor.
Saturday’s Cup final went the distance, with Liverpool eventually beating Chelsea on penalties for the second time this season, and also appeared to come at a cost.
Key duo Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk both remain doubtful after they were forced off injured. Salah suffered a groin injury in the first half and Van Dijk withdrew before extra time with a knee issue.
Full assessments on both players were being made on Monday but Klopp may be unwilling to take risks with the Champions League final still to play for.
The German said: “This process is not finished yet. We played 120 minutes only two days ago. The boys only arrived today (Monday) and we have to make a lot of decisions.
“But what I can promise, definitely, is we will line up to try to win the game at Southampton. We have a job to do and we have to see who is able to help.”

Midfielder Fabinho, who missed the cup final with a thigh injury, is not yet ready to return but defender Andy Robertson should be available after suffering cramp on Saturday.
This could be a good opportunity for players who did not start at Wembley to play a more prominent role and Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, who both came off the bench, are 6/5 and 6/4 respectively in the anytime goalscorer betting.
Jota also features in the #YourCall Star Man market in the Southampton v Liverpool odds and is 9/1 to score in both halves or the same price to score and have an assist.
City results give Saints hope
Liverpool’s Wembley exertions give Southampton hope of an upset but their recent form suggests the Reds could barely be up against more favourable opposition.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl had targeted a top-half finish this season but faced the wrath of his own supporters during last weekend’s 3-0 loss at Brentford – their seventh defeat in 10 league games.
They have held City to two draws this season though and are 4/1 to earn a point or 13/2 for a win which would be celebrated perhaps more wildly in the blue half of Manchester than it would on the south coast.
“I think it is fantastic for the Premier League to have such a close title race,” said Hasenhuttl, whose side were beaten 4-0 at Anfield in November.
“Everybody is electrified from this battle and we are now part of this duel. We have done our job this season against Man City with two points. They lost four points against us in the title race.

“Against Liverpool, the first game we lost, so now it’s up to us to show again that we can be competitive against a top team.
“For me, it’s one of the most difficult games to prepare for because of the flexibility of the opponent and the unbelievable offensive qualities they have.
“This is maybe the most difficult one at home,” added the Austrian, whose side beat Arsenal last month at St Mary’s and have also taken home points against Manchester United, Tottenham and City.
“We have shown against the top teams that we can achieve something very big – and this is what we will need on Tuesday evening.”
Southampton are 31/20 to still be on level terms at the break but it is hard to have too much faith in a team that are ending the season in such poor form.
A better option for Southampton v Liverpool betting tips looks to be the Reds to be leading at both half-time and full-time at 11/10, especially given the Reds were 3-0 up by the break at Anfield.
In terms of Southampton team news, goalkeeper Fraser Forster and midfielder Stuart Armstrong have both missed training due to a series of complaints but could be fit to feature.
Saints keeper Alex McCarthy, who is still awaiting his first appearance since suffering injury in December, could come in to replace Forster. Defender Tino Livramento (knee) remains out.
