Frida Fagerlund’s Sweden v Ukraine preview: More of the same for Sweden
Our Matchday Squad journalist will be covering Sweden throughout Euro 2020
Sweden might have been one of the most underwhelming teams of the tournament so far – but believe me when I say they couldn’t care less about what other people think. Now Ukraine awaits in the last-16, an opponent which feels beatable.
Don’t expect Janne Andersson to make a lot of changes for this game, the national coach will surely rely on the same system and pretty much the same players. Dejan Kulusevski made a huge impact coming off the bench against Poland which could mean he starts next to the untouchable Alexander Isak.
It should be said, there is a huge question mark regarding the central midfield. Albin Ekdal and Kristoffer Olsson have lost every battle centrally so far which is a cause of concern.
In the defence, centre-back Marcus Danielson has had a mixed tournament next to Victor Lindelöf which is also slightly worrying. No fans are able to travel to Glasgow due to quarantine rules but the National team put their hope in the many Swedes who live in the UK to fill Hampden Park. This is their big opportunity. They will do everything in their power to seize it.
