Our Matchday Squad journalist will be covering Sweden throughout Euro 2020

The three points against Slovakia were a huge relief for this Sweden team.

Even though they finally got the crucial goal after a beautiful pass from Alexander Isak to Robin Quaison who was dragged down by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka (Emil Forsberg converted the penalty), everyone was far from impressed. The first half was pretty dreadful in terms of the lack of attacking play (only one shot on target, three in total).

Thankfully it got better in the second half, mainly because Isak keeps being the much-needed force. It will be interesting to see whether Janne Andersson will finally make some changes against Poland. The national team coach didn’t willingly set aside a single player during the 2018 World Cup – only due to health reasons and suspensions – but this could be the right time to introduce Dejan Kulusevski. Potentially as a right winger, considering centre-forward Quaison must be close to the starting line-up.

The only attacking player Andersson surely will not remove is Isak. They have been clear about their ambition to win the group and field the strongest team on Wednesday, should they already be through when it’s time for kick-off. The Swedes still have a lot more to prove.
