Preview and odds for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier

Scotland’s quest to make it to next winter’s World Cup in Qatar continues when they face the Faroe Islands, so we look at the odds to find some Faroe Islands v Scotland betting tips.

Scott McTominay hit a stoppage-time winner against Israel on Saturday that kept Scotland on course for the World Cup qualifying play-offs.

Tuesday’s match, which takes place at Tórshavn, is live on Sky Sports and kicks off at 7.45pm.

Faroe Islands v Scotland match odds

While Denmark have all but sealed automatic passage to Qatar, Scotland are in prime position to reach the play-offs following their stunning win over Israel.

Twice behind to goals from Eran Zahavi and Munas Dabbur, Steve Clarke’s side battled back to win with goals from John McGinn, Lyndon Dykes and a dramatic winner from Manchester United midfielder McTominay.

Victory moves the Scots four points clear of Israel with three games to play in the battle to finish runners-up to Denmark.

Scotland, who are 3/10 to win, have only managed 12 goals from their seven games, but Clarke’s side have been stingy, conceding just seven and they have a two-goal superior goal difference to Israel.

The Faroe Islands have won one and drawn one of their seven games and are 11/1 to win.

They went down 2-0 at home to Austria on Saturday but Denmark struggled to a 1-0 win when they went to the Faroes, so it won’t be easy for Scotland.

The hosts have drawn twice at home in four previous meetings and the draw is available at odds of 4/1.

Faroe Islands v Scotland head-to-head

Scotland were comfortable 4-0 winners when these sides last met in March and they have won eight of the 10 previous meetings.

Seven of their 10 previous clashes saw three goals or more scored and it is 5/6 that more than 2.5 goals will be scored this time.

Scotland have won to nil on five of their last 10 meetings and they are 20/23 to defeat the Faroe Islands without conceding.

Clarke’s side have won the last five meetings by two goals or more and it is 1/2 that they score two or more this time.

Faroe Islands v Scotland battles

Scotland have now won three consecutive home World Cup qualifiers for the first time since winning all five leading up to the 1998 finals – and wins against the Faroes Islands and Moldova will put them on course for the play-offs.

QPR striker Dykes is the man in form. He is only the second Scotland player to score in three consecutive World Cup qualifiers and is 5/4 to score at any time in the Faroe Islands v Scotland betting tips.
