Preview and odds for the quarter-final

Denmark are on an emotional rollercoaster at Euro 2020 and now have a semi-final place in their sights as we pick out some Czech Republic v Denmark betting tips.

The Danes have shown great team spirit to recover from losing Christian Eriksen in such traumatic circumstances in their opening defeat by Finland and are now dreaming of a repeat of their stunning 1992 success.

Saturday’s match is live on ITV and kicks off at 5pm at the Olympic Stadium in Baku.

Czech Republic v Denmark match odds

Denmark were in danger of an early exit from Euro 2020 but eight goals in their last two matches mean they are full of confidence heading into the quarter-finals.

They thrashed Russia 4-1 in their final group game to clinch the runners-up spot in Group B and the goals continued to flow as they cruised to a 4-0 last-16 win against Wales in Amsterdam.

Kasper Dolberg’s double and late efforts from Joakim Maehle and Martin Braithwaite put the seal on an excellent Denmark display.

Nice striker Dolberg was only playing because Yussuf Poulsen, scorer of two goals in the competition, had missed out with a hamstring injury.

But the former Ajax player, back in familiar surroundings at the Johan Cruyff Arena, made the most of his opportunity by punishing Wales in each half with ruthless finishes.

The odds suggest their run will continue this weekend with Denmark 8/15 favourites to go through and 11/10 to win in normal time.

The Czech Republic are 29/20 to advance and 11/4 to do so in 90 minutes, with 21/10 available for the match to go to extra-time.

A stunning victory over Netherlands in the last round proved they can defy the odds, though, and they will believe they can do so again here.

Having only qualified as one of the best third-placed teams, the Czechs were expected to be brushed aside by the Dutch but Tomas Holes and Patrik Schick struck in the second half to seal victory.

Netherlands completely lost their way in front of a capacity crowd in Budapest after Matthijs de Ligt was sent off for handball on 55 minutes.

Holes gave the Czechs the initiative with a powerful header on 68 minutes and Schick wrapped up victory with his fourth goal of the tournament 10 minutes from time.

Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy said: “We knew they were the favourites, so we needed to play our best – and we did. We played as a team and had some great individual performances. You could see they were all ready.

“Working as a team we can still surprise Denmark and maybe go further.”

This is an exciting opportunity for both teams and will hopefully lead to an open game, with over 2.5 goals available at 11/8 while both teams to score is 21/20.

Czech Republic v Denmark head-to-head

Recent history suggests these are two well-matched teams with five of the last six encounters being drawn.

The most recent was a friendly in November 2016 when Antonin Barak gave the home side an early lead but Nicolai Jorgensen’s 38th-minute equaliser secured a 1-1 draw for Denmark.

The scores to be level again at both half-time and full-time is an option for Czech Republic v Denmark betting tips at 10/3.

Key battles

Portugal’s elimination from Euro 2020 means Schick remains a serious contender in terms of Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips.

Schick has been one of the stars of the tournament in scoring four goals, with Cristiano Ronaldo having scored five but unable to add to his tally.

Schick is 14/5 to find the net again and 5/1 to score first past Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is now dreaming of another piece of silverware having helped Leicester win the FA Cup in May.
