Scotland v Denmark betting tips: Leaders up last for Scots
Preview and odds for Monday’s World Cup qualifier
Scotland secured a play-off spot with a 2-0 win over Moldova on Friday and now welcome runaway Group F leaders Denmark to Hampden Park for their final qualifying fixture.
Steve Clarke’s side have improved dramatically throughout this campaign, bouncing back from an inconsistent start to reel off five straight victories.
Monday’s match kicks off at 7.45pm and is live on Sky Sports as we pick out some potential Scotland v Denmark betting tips.
Scotland v Denmark match odds
Having reached Euro 2020, Scotland’s hopes of making a second consecutive major tournament suffered a poor start by picking up only five points from their first available 12.
But with Denmark romping to Qatar with a perfect nine wins on the spin, Clarke has guided Scotland into second with five successive triumphs to leave them seven points clear of both Israel and Austria ahead of this dead rubber.
This is the perfect opportunity for Scotland to test their progress against one of the best national sides in Europe.
The hosts are 12/5 to avenge their loss in Copenhagen from when the sides last met, while Kasper Hjulmand’s Denmark, whose fine form has taken them into the top 10 in the FIFA rankings, are 5/4 favourites.
The Euro 2020 semi-finalists have barely broken sweat in qualifying, scoring 30 goals while only conceding one.
Although Scotland have kept four clean sheets in their last five, it seems unlikely they will be able to keep the free-flowing Danes quiet and both teams to score is available at 19/20.
The Scots were involved in a five-goal thriller with Israel in Glasgow last month and it would be no surprise to see the goals fly once again.
Over 3.5 is chalked up at 16/5, while combining that with both teams to score and a home win is an option for Scotland v Denmark betting tips at 12/1 as a #YourCall special.
Scotland v Denmark head-to-head
These two have traded blows five times in the last 20 years and it is the Danes who hold a narrow 3-2 advantage thanks to their victory in Copenhagen in September.
Two quickfire goals in the first 15 minutes took the game away from Clarke’s side on that occasion as Denmark registered a 2-0 victory.
A repeat of that scoreline can be backed at 17/2, but it would be no surprise if these two played out their first ever draw at 21/10.
Scotland v Denmark key battles
The hosts are a much more organised unit than the side that travelled to Denmark earlier this year and all could depend on how long the Scottish backline can keep the visitors at bay.
Denmark have scored first in their last 11 internationals and it could be wise to side with them to win the first half at 2/1 and also grab the first goal at 8/5.
Joakim Maehle has scored in Denmark’s last three internationals and the Atalanta man was also on the scoresheet when these two met earlier in the autumn. He is 9/1 to break the deadlock in our Scotland v Denmark betting tips.
For Scotland it is Lyndon Dykes who could give the Danes most to think about. The QPR forward was suspended for the win over Moldova, but had scored in four consecutive games before that.
It is 13/2 for the 26-year-old to strike first, with a goal at any time available at 11/4.
