Crystal Palace v Brentford betting tips: Bees out to sting Vieira

| 18.08.2021

Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

Crystal Palace host promoted Brentford in a London derby and we have examined the odds for some Crystal Palace v Brentford betting tips.

Patrick Vieira has taken over the Eagles from Roy Hodgson and will hope for better than his side showed in a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea while Brentford aim to take another scalp after opening their account with a 2-0 win against Arsenal.

Saturday’s match, which takes place at Selhurst Park, kicks off at 3pm BST.

Crystal Palace v Brentford match odds

This is a transitional period for Palace, who parted ways with Hodgson and after a protracted search  plumped for Vieira as his replacement.

Palace were dominated by Chelsea in their opening Premier League game at Stamford Bridge and goals from Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah sealed the result within an hour.

The Eagles created one shot on target in the entire 90 minutes and are 33/20 to beat Brentford, who come into this on the back of a stunning win over Arsenal.

Despite facing a weakened Arsenal team, Brentford showed they could cut it with the elite in their maiden Premier League game.

Sergi Canos opened the scoring for the Bees and Christian Norgaard headed home a second to give Brentford their first top-flight win in 75 years.

Brentford are 19/10 to beat Palace while the draw is available at 21/10 in the Crystal Palace v Brentford betting tips.

Crystal Palace v Brentford head-to-head

Palace and Brentford have faced each other 38 times since 1907, with the Eagles winning 17 times and Brentford 14.

The Bees last won at Palace in 1957, although there have only been four subsequent meetings at Selhurst Park. Palace have won three of them, including the last two, with the other clash drawn.

Their last meeting took place in the League Cup in August 1977, which Palace won 5-1. It is 19/4 for Palace to win but concede at least one goal.

Six of the last seven meetings have seen both teams score and it is 19/20 for that to be the case again in the Crystal Palace v Brentford betting tips.

Palace scored in four of their last five Premier League games at Selhurst Park and they are 10/11 to win either half.

Crystal Palace v Brentford team news

Conor Gallagher is set to make his competitive debut for Palace. The Chelsea loanee was ineligible to face his parent club last weekend.

James Tomkins is also available after recovering from a knock but Nathan Ferguson (Achilles), captain Luka Milivojevic (personal reasons), Michael Olise (back) and Ebere Eze (Achilles) remain absent.

Brentford midfielder Mathias Jensen has resumed training after recovering from a deep wound in his foot suffered during the Euro 2020 semi-final defeat by England but is not yet in contention.

DR Congo international Yoane Wissa could be in line for his debut after being on the bench against Arsenal and winger Tariqe Fosu is closing in on a return from an unspecified knock but midfielder Josh Dasilva (hip) remains unavailable.

Crystal Palace v Brentford key battles

Brentford caught Arsenal cold last Friday. They were solid in defence and vibrant in attack, with Ivan Toney proving a handful for the Gunners’ depleted squad.

Toney, who scored 31 goals in the Championship regular season, is 7/2 to score the first goal on Saturday and it is 8/1 for him to net first and Brentford go on to win the game.

Palace will have to keep a firm grip on the 25-year-old former Peterborough marksman.

Likewise, Wilfried Zaha remains the hosts’ talisman and clearly the most talented player at Palace.

Despite rumours again this summer he is set to depart the club, there has thus far been little concrete interest in the 28-year-old winger, who has so often shouldered the club’s creative and goalscoring burden.

He notched 11 goals last season and is 9/2 to score the first goal in the game while it is 9/1 for Palace to win 2-1 in the Crystal Palace v Brentford betting tips.
