As the second round continues tonight

Five Premier League teams play tonight as the Carabao Cup continues, with all five facing lower league opposition. Will there be cupsets along the way or will it be a walk in the park for the top-tier teams?

After losing their league opener, Southampton face defeated Championship play-off finalists Brentford, while Everton take on League Two’s Salford City, who boast former Evertonian Phil Neville among their owners.

We preview our pick of tonight’s ties:

West Brom v Harrogate (18:00)

Many pundits are writing off West Brom’s Premier League survival chances already after losing 3-0 to Leicester on Sunday, but they face more modest opposition tonight in the form of League Two team Harrogate Town.

Harrogate are sitting pretty at the top of League Two after thrashing Southend 4-0 in their opening game of the season but are likely to struggle if Slaven Bilic names a strong side.

West Brom are 1/3 favourites to win, with 4/1 about the draw and 17/2 for Harrogate to claim victory.

A West Brom win with over 3.5 goals can be backed at 3/1, while a snatched Harrogate victory with under 3.5 goals is priced at 10/1.

Charlie Austin is favourite to open the scoring at 14/5 and is 10/11 to find the net anytime, while Hal Robson-Kanu is at 21/20 to score during the game. Harrogate’s Jack Muldoon scored a brace against Southend last time out and is 14/5 to score again tonight.

Southampton v Brentford (19:45)

Southampton’s season got off to a limp start as they lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace at the weekend and they’ll be looking for a more impressive display tonight against Brentford.

Brentford’s own campaign opened with a 1-0 loss to Birmingham and they could struggle to match last season’s play-off run after losing top-scorer Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa in a club-record deal.

Southampton are 7/10 to win in 90 minutes, with the draw at 27/10 and a Brentford win at 21/5.

The two teams haven’t met since the 2010/11 season when both sides found themselves in League One. An Adam Lallana goal helped Southampton to a 3-0 win in their second meeting then, and a repeat of that scoreline tonight can be backed at 11/1.

Danny Ings will be hoping to match last’s season’s goalscoring heroics and is 23/10 to open the scoring tonight or 5/6 to score anytime, while Che Adams is 7/4 to find the net. For Brentford, new signing Ivan Toney is at 13/2 to score first, or 11/4 to score anytime.

Leeds United v Hull City (19:45)

After taking part in that pulsating Premier League opener against Liverpool, Leeds United have marked themselves as a highly entertaining side and are 1/3 to beat last season’s relegated Championship rivals Hull City, who are 9/1 to win tonight, with 4/1 about the draw.

Leeds beat Hull twice last season en route to winning the Championship, with a 6-0 aggregate scoreline. You can back them at 11/10 to win to nil again tonight.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford is 7/2 to open the scoring or 11/8 to net anytime, while Rodrigo Moreno will be looking for redemption after giving away a poor penalty on Saturday – he’s 13/10 to find the net.

For Hull, Josh Magennis looks the most likely goalscoring candidate and is 9/1 to score first, or 16/5 anytime.

Everton v Salford City (20:15)

The evening’s final game sees an impressive-looking Everton side take on League Two’s Salford City.

While there will be the novelty of seeing Phil Neville’s torn loyalties, the former Everton captain and current Salford City shareholder can’t deny Everton’s chances at 1/7 to win, with 15/2 on the draw and 20/1 on an unlikely Salford victory.

The two teams have never met competitively, but the gulf in class could see an Everton landslide. You can back an Everton win with over 3.5 goals at 27/20, while a win to nil is 3/5.

Everton Manager Carlo Ancelotti may opt to give his fringe players a run out and as a result – Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean and Richarlison are all 3/4 to score in the game, with highly-rated prospect Ellis Simms at 4/5.

Salford will look to Brandon Thomas-Asante, Ian Henderson and James Wilson at the other end, with all three at 9/2 to score anytime.
