Carabao Cup Betting Tips: Could Portsmouth shock Brighton on the South Coast?
Odds and preview ahead of tonight’s second round ties
Just three places remain in the hat for the third round of this year’s Carabao Cup, with four Premier League teams among those left to battle it out for a spot.
Burnley take on Sheffield United in the first match of their new campaign, with the Blades looking to improve from their opening 2-0 defeat in the league.
Elsewhere, Wolves host Stoke with Gillingham waiting in the next round, while Brighton look to get their first win of the season against Portsmouth.
Ahead of tonight’s action, we’ve previewed all three second round ties.
Burnley v Sheffield United (17:30)
Both Sean Dyche’s and Chris Wilder’s sides impressed in the league last season and showing a similar rich vein of form in this season’s Carabao Cup could increase their chances of winning silverware.
The Clarets are yet to get their league campaign underway, as the Blades suffered an opening day defeat to Wolves at Bramall Lane, losing 2-0.
Burnley are the 31/20 favourites to win the tie, with 15/8 about a Sheffield United win. Fancy the game to go to penalties? The draw is available at 11/5.
Chris Wood is the favourite to open the scoring for Burnley at 7/2, with 6/4 about him anytime. You can find 7/4 on Ashley Barnes finding the net, with 17/10 on Jay Rodriguez scoring in 90 minutes.
For the Blades, there’s 5/1 about Billy Sharp, Lys Mousset or Oliver Burke opening the scoring, while Sharp, Mousset and Oliver McBurnie are 9/4 to score anytime.
Wolves v Stoke City (19:00)
The Wanderers looked sharp in their league opener against Sheffield United, and might see the Carabao Cup as a great opportunity to claim a trophy this season.
Stoke started their new Championship campaign at a snail’s pace, claiming a point on the road at Millwall.
The Premier League side are the odds-on 1/2 favourites to win, with the Potters 6/1 to win at Molineux. You can find the draw at 3/1.
After the bright start to the league campaign, keeping a clean sheet, fancy Wolves to follow it up with another in the cup? A Wolves Win to Nil is available at 5/4.
Mexican frontman Raul Jimenez is favourite the open the scoring for the home side at 5/2, while new signing Fabio Silva is 14/5 to break the deadlock.
Lee Gregory and Steven Fletcher are the 17/2 favourites to score first for Stoke, while there’s 10/1 about Sam Vokes opening the scoring.
Brighton v Portsmouth (19:45)
Graham Potter’s men will feel unlucky to have left with nothing in their opening Premier League match against Chelsea, after being on top for most of the match.
Kenny Jackett and his Portsmouth side also failed to score three points in their opening fixture, claiming a point in a 0-0 draw at home to 10-man Shrewsbury Town.
The Premier League side are odds-on 8/13 favourites to advance here, with Pompey out at 24/5 to win the tie. You can find the draw at 14/5.
These two South Coast sides haven’t met in eight years, with Brighton the victors in their two Championship meetings in the 2011/12 season.
They won both of those games keeping a clean sheet, so if you fancy Brighton to Win to Nil again here, that’s available at 6/4.
