Ally McCoist’s Scotland v Czech Republic preview: ‘Scotland will win their opening game.’
Our Matchday Squad journalist will be covering Scotland throughout Euro 2020
What a chance for Scotland against a good side.
Czech Republic will be missing one of their key players through injury. Slavia Prague’s Lukas Provod along with his teammates, have had a phenomenal season. Sadly, he’ll miss the tournament, but they have still got a good team. The two boys at West Ham, Coufal and Soucek have had wonderful seasons. They’ll be very eager.
They’ll be stern opposition for a Scotland team, who we are quietly confident about, first major tournament since France ’98. The boys have done us proud getting there, who could forget the penalty shoot in Serbia.
Midfield, I think that’s our strongest area of the team itself, but all of a sudden we have great players, playing at a great level. Robertson, Tierney, etc, but I think the middle of the park, in McTominay and McGinn, we’ve got real strength in there, and we can do well.
I’m taking this game as our most important game of the section, and we can win it. We can beat the Czech Republic, 1-0 and manage to get through. Whether it’s in third place or second place, I’m not prepared to say at this stage, but we will beat the Czech Republic.
