Fontwell tips: Paul Nicholls double with As De Mee and Movewiththetimes
Published:As De Mee odds appealing among Fontwell tips
Trainer Paul Nicholls has his team in flying form, so As De Mee odds and Movewiththetimes both look like solid Fontwell tips to give Ditcheat handler with a double on today’s card.
As De Mee runs in the 2m 3f beginners’ chase (15:20) and can put his experience to good use to get the better of main market rival Charmix.
The six-year-old is yet to win over the larger obstacles, but did run some really solid races last season to make the frame against top-class opposition.
They included a 2 1/2 length second to former Cheltenham Festival World Hurdle winner More Of That at Cheltenham, and a solid six length runner-up to Bristol De Mai in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown.
That represents very strong for in the context of this contest and sets a clear standard for others to aim at.
Movewiththetimes can collect on hurdles debut
Movewiththetimes makes his eagerly awaited debut over the obstacles in the 2m 1f novices hurdle that get proceedings underway (13:40), and is strongly fancied to make it a winning one.
The JP McManus owned gelding created a good impression when winning his sole start in a bumper at Wincanton back in April, overcoming obvious signs of inexperience to get up close home and score by 3/4 of a length.
Although what Movewiththetimes beat is questionable, the front two pulled nine lengths clear of the field and there was lots to like about the way in which the son of Presenting knuckled down to get the job done.
It was a performance which suggested Movewiththetimes needed keeping firmly onside and, with Barry Geraghty in the saddle, he can take this en route to better things.
Fergal Mael Duin weighted to retain crown
Fergal Mael Duin has a good record fresh, so can make a winning debut for trainer Colin Tizzard to land back-to-back runnings of the 2m 5f handicap chase (14:10).
The eight-year-old won this 12 months ago when only having to be driven clear to score by 4 1/2 lengths off a mark of 117.
Fergal Mael Duin failed to sparkle in two subsequent outings, but is now able to race off just 3lb higher as a result.
His last five runs after a break read 32231, suggesting that first time up out undoubtedly the best time to catch Fergal Mael Duin.
Chartbreaker each-way value
In the 2m 5f handicap hurdle (14:45), Chartbreaker looks on a potentially handy mark and decent each-way value in a wide-open contest.
The gelding showed some useful form over the obstacles when trained by Paul Nicholls, winning at the third time of asking at Kempton before going on to finish a solid third on handicap debut at the same venue off a mark of 126.
Chartbreaker is now able to race off 2lb lower, running really when when runner-up on the level last time out at Sandown on his third start for new handler Chris Gordon.
It makes the five-year-old look weighted to run a big race, especially as he remains unexposed and open to further progress after just four starts over hurdles.
