Folkswood standout at Newmarket

Selection in every race on Wednesday

Coral punters have a quality day of horse racing ahead at Newmarket on Wednesday, including a couple of group three contests to enhance what is already a fantastic midweek of sport.

You can get involved in every race right here at Coral – the winners are just a click away. Still undecided? Read on as we detail our best bet and chief support on the Suffolk card, which gets underway at 1.50pm. Skip to the bottom of this page and you’ll find a selection in every race, picked out to aid your accumulators.

Appleby’s ace worth a play

Our NAP of the meeting goes in the 3.00pm Earl Of Sefton Stakes, a group three test, disputed over one mile one furlong. Of the eight runners expected to post, Folkswood leaps off the page at us. Charlie Appleby’s rep arrives in stunning form, and was narrowly beaten in group one company in Meydan last time out, losing out to race favourite Decorated Knight by a neck. That was an impressive effort, achieved off a decent SP, and ensures he will be afforded maximum respect in the betting ring here.

It was no fluke either, as seen by the four-year-old gelding’s recent stats, finishing no higher than third in any of his last five goes. With three career wins already onside, including a course victory last year, he holds every hope of boosting his stock, and the balance of those happy to keep faith. He goes for a confident yard, and followers of the stats will remind us that Appleby, as well as having a decent showing on Tuesday, shows a 22 per cent strike rate around here.

The selection will find conditions to his liking, and I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet. There’s plenty of improving left in Folkswood, and we’re confident punters will see that here. Coral traders obviously want to keep him close, and are 11/4 favourite at the time of writing, which seems fair.

Sea Of Grace on an upward curve

We’re straight back out with our next best in the 3.35pm, another group three affair, this time over seven furlongs. Sea Of Grace gets the nod here for William Haggas and Pat Cosgrave.

She has done nothing but improve so far, going in to this with a CV reading two wins from three starts. Following a placed effort at Curragh on debut, the three-year-old filly went on to score back-to-back wins at Tipperary and Curragh, the best of those coming last time out.

Going off as a 7/2 poke in group three company, she edged out Ezira by a neck to continue her form, and punters who watched the race would’ve been impressed by the way she was seen battling on at the end, digging in to nick it on the line. If she can show more of that fighting spirit here, this gutsy filly will take all the beating. Currently a 7/2 joint-favourite.
