Five signings for Manchester United in the summer
Published:Following news that Manchester United, odds-on at 1/33 with Coral for a top four finish, are on the verge of signing German international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, we take a look at five more possible recruits for Louis van Gaal in the summer.
Memphis Depay
Highly likely to happen, Van Gaal selected his compatriot in the World Cup squad last summer. The PSV Eindhoven attacker has been in clinical form this season, and the flying Dutchman would fit right into the Man Utd side, slotting in comfortably on the left flank.
Aymeric Laporte
Athletic Bilbao’s 20-year-old French centre back is rated as one of the best young defenders in Europe, and having plucked central midfielder Ander Herrera from the Basque outfit last summer, United may return for his teammate, who could command a fee of up to £30M.
Inigo Martinez
The 23-year-old Spanish centre back is definitely one to watch, and could well be the future for the national team. It would be interesting whether his manager David Moyes, would accept a lucrative bid from his ex-employers, though there is no doubt that Martinez could make a big difference for the Red Devils.
Robert Lewandowski
If the Polish striker fancies a new challenge in a different country, he may turn his attentions to the Premier League, if Man United, who have long been linked with him, come calling. Should Gundogan move to Old Trafford, the opportunity to link up with his old teammate may be desirable, where he would get plenty of service from the likes of Herrera, Angel di Maria and Juan Mata.
Matteo Darmian
United have long been in need of a right back, since Gary Neville retired, and could be tempted to pounce for Torino’s Italy international, who offers a great balance between defence and attack, compared to Rafeal da Silva, who is often too adventurous.
