Ffos Las preview: Cotton Club can follow-up
Published:Cotton Club scored in impressive fashion last time out, and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow-up in the 2m handicap on this evening’s card at Ffos Las (20.00).
The Rod Millman trained gelding relished the step up in trip when turning a 2m 1f contest at Bath into a procession.
After going left at the start, Cotton Club recovered quickly to track the leaders before being produced to lead entering the final furlong by jockey Oisin Muprhy and surging clear to score by seven lengths.
The four-year-old won with any amount in hand, and a 7lb rise is unlikely to be enough to stop the son of Amadeus Wolf going in again.
Cotton Club also remains unexposed as a stayer and open to further improvement, and once again has the services of Murphy in the saddle.
He has a strike rate of 21 per cent when teaming up with the yard in the past 12 months, and everything suggests Cotton Club has outstanding claims of further enhancing it.
In the 7f handicap (19.30), Best Endeavour can take advantage of a drop in class to get back to winning ways.
The Bill Muir trained gelding has just one win to his name, and that came in a class 5 contest at Kempton 11 months ago off a mark of 74.
Best Endeavour has since gone on to perform with credit off marks as high as 80, and comes into the contest on the back of two solid efforts in class 3 contests at Sandown and Newmarket.
Those runs suggest that the three-year-old is coming to the boil nicely, and Best Endeavour now drops down significantly in grade into class 5 company.
It is the first time that Best Endeavour has raced at such a level since notching his sole career success, and the son of Medicean is now able to race of a reduced mark of 75.
That is just 1lb higher than when last successful and gives Best Endeavour major claims at the weights on the pick of his form.
