Fakenham Preview: Frizzo weighted to go well

Frizzo looks to have been found a glorious opportunity to take advantage of a drop in the weights and open his account over fences in the in 3.20 at Fakenham today.

The gelding won his maiden hurdle in good style when trained by Alan King and made a promising start over fences for that handler when runner-up to Up For An Oscar in a novices’ handicap chase at Southwell off a mark of 111.

The seven-year-old then joined Tony Coyle and was far from disgraced on his first start for new connections when fifth of 10 to Kilbree Kid at Market Rasen after making some costly errors.

Frizzo then shaped as if needing the run last time out at Carlisle after a 139 day break, leading until being headed three out and then allowed to come home in his own time.

That run should have blow away the cobwebs, and the assessor has since dropped Frizzo a further 2lb.

The son of Ballingarry is now racing off a mark of 106, and that looks very exploitable given that Frizzo was once rated as high as 124 over hurdles.

There is also every chance that Frizzo will be able to dominate in today’s line-up, and if that proves to be the case he is going to be tough to peg back in what is a very weak looking class 4 contest.

In the 2m 4f handicap hurdle that opens proceedings (12.50), Mexican Border looks the answer following an eye-catching run last time out.

The gelding had just six career starts and shaped well on the second of those when fourth of 16 to The Mooch in a maiden hurdle at Wexford back in March, where he had the now 124 rated Well Tuned 26 lengths behind in fifth.

That form looks decent in the contest of this contest, and Mexican Border has since run well in two starts since joining trainer Mike Hammond.

In the first of those, the five-year-old was in the process of running a huge race at Bangor when tipping up three from home when holding a length lead.

Mexican Border then showed he was none the worse for that tumble when a solid fourth of 12 to Powerful Action at Ludlow last time out off a mark of 102.

The runner-up Golden Jubilee has come out and won since to give the form a boost, and the handicapper looks to have given Mexican Border a real chance by dropping him a further 2lb in the weights.
