Latest odds and info ahead of Sunday’s race at Ayr
We’ve got one of the biggest events in the UK racing calendar to look forward to this weekend – the Coral Scottish Grand National.
It’s Scotland’s most prestigious race and after last year’s event was cancelled, there’s plenty of excitement about this 4m renewal. Ahead of race-off, we’ve got all the odds and news covered.
When is the Coral Scottish Grand National?
The 2021 Coral Scottish Grand National takes place at Ayr at 15:35 on Sunday 18th April.
It was originally due to be held this Saturday, but it’s now been rescheduled for Sunday as a mark of respect for Prince Philip. The original race time would have clashed with the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral service.
What’s the latest Coral Scottish Grand National news?
Galvin was ruled out of the Grade 3 race earlier this week, having led the ante-post betting. The Ian Ferguson-trained seven-year-old is being given a break after winning the National Hunt Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
Former stablemate Escaria Ten was also missing from Monday’s confirmations, with Eurobot and Mister Fogpatches also among the Irish entries. There are nine Scottish entries, up from only two in 2019.
The going is expected to be good to soft, with a dry week forecasted and the track already being watered.
What is the Coral Scottish Grand National prize money?
The total prize money for this year’s event is £150,000. Ayr managing director David Brown has said it’s been set at “the highest possible level” given the difficulties that the racing industry has faced due to the pandemic.
What are the Coral Scottish Grand National betting odds?
Aye Right heads the betting at 8/1, with trainer Harriet Graham aiming to land a home victory. The eight-year-old has placed in his last four runs at graded or Listed level, including a third-place finish in the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.
Dingo Dollar is next up at 10/1, having won comfortably at Newcastle last time out. He also has a third-place finish in the Ladbrokes Trophy to his name and he came second in Ayr’s Novice Handicap Chase back in 2018.
Vintage Clouds was in top form to beat Aye Right in the Ultima, but he’s at 10/1 here. He was the beaten favourite in 2019 and is looking to make it fourth-time lucky in the Ayr showpiece.
Sam’s Adventure, Soldier of Love and The Ferry Master are all at 12/1, with the rest of the odds as follows:
