Everton v Sheffield United betting tips: Toffees must improve home record

Published:

Preview and odds for Sunday’s game

Everton are still in the mix for a Europa League place and will be expected to boost their chances by beating relegated Sheffield United.

The Toffees still have to go to Manchester City on the final day so will be keen to make the most of two home matches in four days against the Blades and Wolves.

Sunday’s match is live on BT Sport and kicks off at 7.00pm as we highlight a few potential Everton v Sheffield United betting tips.

Everton v Sheffield United match odds

Two of Everton’s last three matches were against Aston Villa and they could only pick up one point but they sandwiched a 1-0 win at West Ham which was arguably the most important of the three games.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men will come to rue their home form if they miss out on European football having lost eight matches at Goodison Park, compared to just three on their travels.

Everton are just 2/5 for the win, which is understandable given Sheffield United’s dismal campaign.

The likes of Burnley, Newcastle and Fulham have all won here this season so that offers some encouragement to the Yorkshire side, who are 15/2 for the win and 2/1 to avoid defeat for only the third time on their travels this season.

Everton v Sheffield United head-to-head

Everton’s league position looked much healthier when the teams met at Bramall Lane on a blustery Boxing Day.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strike 10 minutes from time was enough to earn a 1-0 win and propelled the Toffees to second place in the Premier League table.

That result saw the Blades become only the third club in top-flight history to be without a win on Boxing Day and their fortunes have not improved since then.

It was a second successive 1-0 win for Everton in this fixture and they are 11/2 to make it a hat-trick while an Everton win to nil is available at 6/5.

The Blades did at least win at Goodison Park last season, enjoying a 2-0 victory despite having only one shot on target!

A Yerry Mina own goal late in the first half gifted them the lead and Lys Mousset made the points safe in the 79th minute.

Previous XI

Sheffield United: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, Basham, Egan, Bryan, Fleck, Berge, Burke, Norwood, McGoldrick.

Team news

Everton playmaker James Rodriguez is set to be fit having trained on Friday after missing three matches with a calf problem. However, fellow Colombian Yerry Mina has not recovered from the adductor injury which has sidelined him for two games.

Blades midfielder Sander Berge has suffered another injury and will not be risked during what remains of the season. Oliver Burke has fractured a bone in his foot and will also miss the Blades’ last three matches.

Key battles

This fixture will mean more than most to Sheffield-born Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who came through United’s academy and made 11 first-team appearances.

Everton’s £1.5million signing of the striker has proved a smart piece of business and the England international has 16 league goals this season.

He is odds on at 4/6 to add to that tally against his former club and 3/1 to score two or more, giving Everton an attacking option that Sheffield United can now only dream of especially due to injuries to key players.
