Epsom preview: Caspian Prince ready to cut a Dash

Caspian Prince each-way value in Investec “Dash”

Caspian Prince has a good record at Epsom and is decent each-way value in a typically wide-open renewal Investec “Dash” run over the flying 5f at the Surrey venue (15.45).

The gelding is a dual winner over course and distance, with the last of those successes coming in this contest two years ago.

Caspian Prince went on to secure another big pot at York last summer when making all to land a competitive 20-runner contest by 1/2 a length off a mark of 102, and ran a blinder on his final start of 2015 when a 4 1/2 length seventh of 18 to Goldream in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp off an official rating of 106.

Drawn to attack

The Dean Ivory trained seven-year-old is now able to race off 104, and that looks exploitable on the pick of his form.

Caspian Prince also ran well on his penultimate outing at Meydan back in February when a 1 3/4 length fourth of 18 to Sir Maximilian when showing all his customary dash and sticking to the task well.

Judge on that running the son of Dylan Thomas is a big player in this, and from stall 17 Caspian Prince is drawn to attack and could prove hard to peg back.

Duke Of Firenze ahead of assessor

Duke Of Firenze bounced back to form in no uncertain terms when scoring last time out at York and looks sure to go well.

The David Griffiths trained gelding came from off the pace travelling strongly before showing a smart turn of foot to beat Brando, and is due to go up 10lb for that victory in future assignments.

However, the seven-year-old is able to race in this off just 5lb higher and that gives him a huge shout from a handicapping perspective.

Duke Of Firenze also has course winning form to his name having landed this race in 2013, but the big worry is that he is a hold-up performer who will need the gaps to appear at exactly the right time in what if often a roughly-run contest.

If they do then the son of Pivotal holds obvious claims, and Duke Of Firenze is versatile as regards ground and flanked by pace which should enable him to get a good tow into the race.
