Seven-year-old favourite for March’s Cheltenham showpiece

Despite defeat at Kempton on Boxing Day, Epatante remains the 6/4 favourite for March’s Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

The Nicky Henderson-trained 2020 winner retains favouritism after 27 runners were announced for the showpiece at Cheltenham following the latest round of declarations.

Another mare, the Henry De Bromhead-trained Honeysuckle, is the 7/1 second favourite, ahead of Saint Roi and Sharjah, who are both 8/1 in the betting.

Epatante’s conqueror in Boxing Day’s Ladbroke Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, Silver Streak, is 10/1 to follow up that impressive performance with another win.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “Despite her shock defeat at Kempton last month, we still believe Epatante is the one to beat in the Champion Hurdle, particularly as a clear challenger has yet to emerge from the Irish-trained contenders.”
