English King 7/2 favourite for Investec Derby
Published:Frankie Dettori confirmed as the Epsom mount
With the Investec Derby just around the corner, English King has been placed as the 7/2 favourite to claim the win in the Epsom Classic.
The leading jockey from the Royal Ascot meet will be on board too, as Frankie Dettori has been confirmed to be riding the three-year-old Lingfield Derby Trial winning colt.
Coral’s David Stevens said: “Having enjoyed great success in owner Bjorn Nielsen’s silks over the years, most recently on Stradivarius, and with his principle backer John Gosden not having an obvious Derby horse this season, it’s not a surprise to see Frankie Dettori booked to ride English King at Epsom next month,”
“With no standout Derby challenger from Ballydoyle in the frame yet either, and the Guineas winner Kameko not certain to stay a mile and a half, Frankie’s presence on board the impressive Lingfield winner should cement English King’s position as big race favourite,” Stevens added.
Elsewhere, Coral ambassador Jim Crowley has had his odds halved in his quest to regain the jockeys’ title.
Crowley Is 16/1 (from 33/1) to win this this season’s Flat jockeys’ championship after riding six winners at Royal Ascot.
Oisin Murphy remains the odds-on favourite to retain the title he won for the first-time last year at 10/11, though his odds have been eased from 4/6.
Coral’s David Stevens added: “This year’s Flat jockeys’ title race is shorter than usual, and that could bring former champions such as Jim Crowley – in great form at the Royal meeting – and Ryan Moore, unable to ride abroad currently, into the reckoning, although reigning champ Oisin Murphy remains the rider to beat.”
