Formula One returns to Europe with Ferrari riding high at the top of the standings after another dominant weekend for Charles Leclerc in Melbourne.

The Monegasque had the pace to keep Max Verstappen at bay during the Australian Grand Prix before the Dutchman had to retire due to a mechanical failure as the championship leader stretched his advantage.

Leclerc is 5/4 to make it three wins from four races at Imola, with Verstappen 8/5 to pick up his second win, as we look at some Emilia Romagna Grand Prix betting tips.

Ferrari have chance to cash in on rivals’ struggles

The Scuderia have been in impressive form over the first three races, posting two wins for Leclerc who holds a 34-point lead at the top of the standings – remarkably ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell.

Mercedes have struggled for pace and performance but have been kept in the title hunt by the issues Red Bull have encountered.

World champion Max Verstappen, who won in Saudi Arabia, has failed to finish two of the first three races due to mechanical issues with his car.

With their two nearest rivals yet to get their car in peak shape, Ferrari have the opportunity to pull further away.

Leclerc said before Melbourne that the Imola track should suit them better, and given his dominant display in Australia that would be a daunting prospect for the chasing pack.

His team-mate Carlos Sainz has not enjoyed such a smooth ride, with his DNF last time out leaving him 38 points behind Leclerc.

The Spaniard has to get back on track quickly and Ferrari are 5/4 for a double podium finish.

Russell growing into Mercedes role

While the Silver Arrows currently lack the performance to live with Ferrari and Red Bull, Russell has stepped up to show he is a match for seven-time world champion team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

Russell, who joined from Williams, has finished ahead of Hamilton at the last two races and is 4/1 to make the podium here, while both Mercedes drivers to finish in the top six is an option for Emilia Romagna Grand Prix betting tips at 4/5.

Alonso out to get the better of team-mate Ocon

The Alpine team appear to have a car with plenty of pace but for the veteran Fernando Alonso in particular it has been a frustrating start to the season.

A promising ninth-placed finish in the opening race in Bahrain has been followed by a DNF in Saudi Arabia before it all went wrong in Melbourne as he finished 17th.

Alonso looked to have the speed to put his car on the second row at Albert Park – where he had made his debut 21 years earlier – but crashed into the barriers on his fastest qualifying run.

He then lost out under the safety car and his tyres went away from him.

The Spaniard has finished behind his team-mate Esteban Ocon at each race so far, with the Frenchman racking up 20 points to Alonso’s two.

The 40-year-old will likely believe luck has been against him so far and will be determined to get the upper hand. He is 6/4 for a top-six finish, with Alpine 4/5 for a double points finish.
