Doncaster preview: Mysteree the answer to handicap chase

Mysteree scored in terrific style on seasonal reappearance and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow-up in the 3m handicap chase at Doncaster today (14.25).
The Lucinda Russell trained gelding had some useful form as a hurdler when winning twice, and overcame an absence of 615 days to make a winning debut over fences in a class 3 contest at Wetherby last month.
Mysteree faced just rival, but jumped well and drew clear from the second last to score easing down by 32 lengths off a mark of 117.
It was a taking performance after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines and one which suggested the eight-year-old would win plenty more races.
Mysteree has been raised just 3lb for that runaway victory, and that could well be on the lenient side given that he was rated as high as 125 over hurdles.
The son of Gold Well also now drops down into class 4 company, and will relish the testing conditions at Town Moor.
Another plus is that the yard remains in good form, and with Tom Scudamore in the saddle Mysteree looks to have everything in his favour.
Redkalani to open obstacles account
In the 3m handicap hurdle (12.15), Redkalani can take advantage of what looks a handy mark to open his account over the obstacles now stepped up in trip.
The Keith Reveley trained gelding had some useful form to his name in bumpers, including when third to the now 130-rated Seldom Inn on debut and fourth to Grove Silver who is now rated 127.
Redkalani went on to be given an easy time in his first three starts over hurdles, before shaping better than the bare result suggests on handicap debut at Newcastle last March when seventh of 17 to Northern Acres off an opening mark of 100.
The eight-year-old made a couple of costly jumping errors before keeping on under tender handling to be nearest at the finish an beaten just over 11 lengths.
Redkalani was then on the sidelines for 258 days before reappearing at Newcastle last month and shaping as if badly in need of the outing when finishing fifth over 2m 4f.
That should have blow away the cobwebs and put Redkalani spot on, and a mark of 96 looks very exploitable on the pick of his bumper form now that the son of Ashkalani is stepped up to a trip which promises to suit.
