Doncaster preview: Frenzified can return to winning ways

Published:

Trainer Luca Cumani has a tremendous strike-rate with his runners at Doncaster, and Frenzified can further enhance it with victory in the 1m 4f handicap on today’s seven-race card (16.10).

The Newmarket handler has been successful with just over 27.5 per cent with his runners at Town Moor in the past 12 months, and in Frenzified has a lightly-raced and improving filly who looks on a handy mark.

Frenzified shaped well in a trio of maidens before opening her account in a conditions’ contest at Salisbury where she was value for more than the one length winning margin.

After tracking the leaders, the three-year-old got slightly outpaced three from home before rallying strongly under a hands and heels ride to get up close home and be well on top at the finish.

It was an effort which suggested there was plenty more to come from the well-bred daughter of Yeats, and she confirmed that view last time out when a solid third to Mikandy in a 1m 2f handicap at Nottingham.

Although beaten 4 1/2 lengths, Frenzified kept on nicely without being unduly knocked about and the runner-up has come out and won since to give the form a boost.

The extra two furlongs this afternoon looks sure to suit, and another plus is that Frenzified has the services of talented apprentice Cam Hardie in the saddle who is terrific value for his 3lb claim.

In the 5f handicap that closes proceedings (17.20), Irish Girls Spirit looks decent value to land the spoils.

The Paul Midgley trained mare ended 2014 in terrific form, landing a 5f contest at Musselburgh before bolting up by five lengths at Hamilton off a mark of 58.

Irish Girls Spirit got raised 10lb for the latter, and has failed to trouble the judged in two runs this season.

However, she has has shaped better than the bare result has shown on each occasion and shaped as if needing the outings.

The six-year-old has shown plenty of pace to chase the leaders before being unable to find any extra, and has had a similar profile in the past after lay-offs before coming good.

Irish Girls Spirit has also been dropped 2lb, and with Paul Mulrennan in the saddle a big run looks on the cards.
