Odds and tips ahead of the big clash

Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker meet in a world heavyweight clash that will set one of the fighters on a path to a rematch with Anthony Joshua.

The two fighters have only lost one professional fight in their careers – both to current IBF, WBO, WBA, and IBO world champion, Joshua.

The Coral News Team takes a closer look at both fighters and provides some tips…

Whyte means business

It’s been a relatively long road to this juncture for ‘The Bodysnatcher’. A defeat to AJ back in December 2015 punctured his momentum.

But Whyte has been on a seven-fight win streak since, with victories over the likes of Dave Allen and Dereck Chisora. In the last couple of years, the Jamaica-born star has been on a stricter fitness and diet regime. His conditioning has been much-improved and it’s made a difference, too.

He looked fitter and fresher than ever before in stoppage wins over Robert Helenius and Lucas Browne. In the latter fight, he knocked out the Australian in a vicious way.

Whyte has definitely looked much-improved since the previous-mentioned defeat to AJ. And if he can get the win over Parker, it will edge him much closer to the rematch he craves so much.

And it’s business as usual for Parker

The New Zealander is the epitome of consistency. You’re not going to get anything flashy or explosive out of Parker. But he’s like a steam train that keeps on coming.

Even AJ failed to stop him with the Kiwi losing that bout by unanimous decision after 12 rounds. He’s big, he’s got a good jab, a decent gas tank, and an excellent chin.

At the open workouts in London on Wednesday, Parker looked in supreme condition, too. A lot rests on his fight for the 26-year-old. If he loses, he’s out of title contention for at least another few years.

But make no mistake, Parker is the best opponent Whyte will have faced since Joshua nearly three years ago.

Fight Prediction

This bout could and should be a lot of fun. Neither fighter is likely to leave anything in the dressing room

And the odds suggest this is going to be tight, too. Coral make Whyte the 11/10 underdog, with Parker the slight favourite at 8/11.

Parker’s last four fights have all gone the full 12 rounds. And at elite level, it’s questionable whether he has the power to take the big boys out.

Despite Whyte’s improved conditioning, the big Briton will probably look to stop Parker before it gets anywhere close to 12. He’ll look to get on the inside of the Kiwi and unleash ferocious hooks into the body.

This is all-or-nothing for Whyte. He’s already had his shot at AJ, and steadily worked his way back to the point where it’s the next port of call. At 30-years-old, he’s four years Parker’s senior.

He’s also fighting in front of his home crowd and that can spur him on even further.

Despite his KO power, not even AJ stopped Parker. So this could go all the way to the scorecards with Whyte being given the nod. It’s 5/2 Whyte wins by Decision or Technical Decision.
