Decisions, decisions…

Which day-to-day decisions do we stress over the most and which profession do we think face more stressful decisions than any other? Read Coral’s blog to discover more, then take our interactive quiz to discover which casino game best suits your mindset.

From deciding what to have for dinner to whether or not we need a carrier bag for our shopping, we spend more time than we might like to admit agonising over seemingly trivial decisions.

We recently conducted research revealing that the decision that causes us the most stress is what to get somebody as a present. 46% of those polled admit they find the process stressful.

In second place and attracting just under a quarter of the vote (24%), is deciding what to wear to a social appointment, followed by what to wear for work (11.2%).

Age also has an impact and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s the younger generation that stress most about their appearance.

Just under a third (31%) of UK residents aged 18-24 stress about what to wear for social outings, compared to 27% of those aged between 35 and 44.

And it seems that as you get older you worry more about the decisions that affect others.

More than half (58%) of those aged 65 or over find picking a present for others stressful, compared to just three in ten (31%) of those aged between 25 and 34 years-old.

The data also revealed that the nation’s capital is home to the nation’s biggest worriers. 16% of Londoners find deciding which restaurant to eat at stressful, while 12% agonise over which takeaway to go for.

The jobs that cause us the most stress

Of course, many of us experience the most stress through our work, though it is doctors who most of us believe are faced with the most stressful decisions.

Our research asked UK residents which profession they think has the most stressful decisions to make and doctors came out the top of the pile, with almost a third (31.2%) of the vote.

They attracted almost 20% more of the vote than firefighters, who rank second, with 12.1%, while in third place are military personnel, who attracted 9.7% of the vote.

Amid intense Brexit negotiations, Politicians rank fourth with 8.9% of the vote, while football managers (7.5%) also make the top five.

Vet (2.6%) and Bus or train driver (1.6%) ranked just outside the top ten.
