David Probert’s Saturday Thoughts

Our Power (jockey David Probert) wins the Mintbet Freebet

Northumberland Plate Day at Newcastle.

1.35 – King’s Lynn

It was a little too sharp for him over 5f at Hamilton last time out, so we are stepping back up to 6f here. He has come out of that race well, which is why he is making a quick reappearance in the same month here. If he can find anything close to his best form, he will be more than competitive in this contest.

2.04 – Fivethousandtoone

He won around here on All-Weather Finals Day, so he knows the track. He was a little unlucky in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot as he did not get a clear run in the race. We are back on the all-weather again, and hopefully, that will see him put his best foot forward from what is a tough mark.

2.35 – Single

I won on this filly at Nottingham earlier this month. She then ran a bit keen at Newmarket last time out. We are stepping up in trip to 2m this time. She is a filly who needs them to go a good gallop, and she will be doing her best work late on.

3.10 – Grand Providence

She is weighted well for this race, so I am looking forward to this ride. There are a lot of runners in this, and a few could be well handicapped too. However, my horse is a straightforward filly who there is a lot to like about. I am expecting her to run a big race in the Northumberland Plate.

3.40 – Giant

He started the season well with a victory at Kempton. I think you could probably put a line through his last run as he did not run up to form. This a competitive race, but I think you can make a strong case for him in this field.

4.15 – Loudan

She is a lovely Blue Point filly who is well-bred. Our two-year-olds always come on for a run. We expect she will improve from what she produced on her debut at Bath.

4.50 – City Streak

He has been in great form this year, including two runs back where he was tough at the finish to prevail at Chester. He has won on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton. I think he will handle this track well.
